The Frog Prince
One fine evening a young princess put on her
bonnet and and clogs, and went out to take a walk by
herself in a wood; and when she came to a cool
spring of water with a rose in the middle of it, she sat
herself down to rest a while. Now she had a golden
ball in her hand, which was her favourite plaything;
and she was always tossing it up into the air, and
catching it again as it fell.

The Lion and The Mouse
Once when a lion was a sleep, a little mouse
began running up and down upon him; this soon
awoke the lion, who placed his huge paw upon the
mouse, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.
“Pardon, o King. Forgive me this time. I shall
never forget it: who knows I may be able to do you
a good turn some of these day?” The lion was so
tickled at the idea of the mouse being able to help
him. Then he lifted up his paw and let him go.

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a
small opening appeared, he sat and watched the
butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its
body through the little hole. Then, it seemed to stop
making any progress. It appeared stuck.
The man decided to help the butterfly and with
a pair of scissors he cut open the cocoon. The
butterfly then emerged easily, but there was
something strange about it.

The butterfly had a swollen body and shrivelled
wings. The man watched the butterfly expecting it
to take on its correct proportions, but nothing
changed.
The butterfly stayed the same. It was never able
to fly. In his kindness and hastle the man did not
realise that the butterfly’s struggle to get through
the small opening of the cocoon is nature’s way of
forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its
wings si that it would be ready for flight.
