Plan-Based Data Protection
 A backup plan enables one or
more data protection tasks to be
run automatically
 Example tasks include: -
− Host-Based Agentless Backup
− Agent-based Windows Backup
− Recovery Point Server Replication
− Remote Replication
− Copy Recovery Point
− Virtual Standby
− File Copy
 Each task includes a set of
activities to define the source,
destination, schedule, advanced
parameters etc.
 Workflow engine enables
integration with future modules &

Recovery Point Server,
capacity optimized backup
 Recovery Point Server (RPS)
improves storage requirements,
bandwidth usage & accelerates
protection & recovery across
sites
 Provides global deduplication:
Data is deduplicated across
nodes, jobs & sites
 WAN optimized replication:1-2-
many & many 2-1
 Jumpstart: Data seeding to
speed remote site deployment
 Reduces load on production
systems, by offloading merge &
backup catalog generation to
RPS system
 In place re-hydration of data for
fast granular restore (including
restores from tape)

arcserve® UDP
Block level infinite incremental
(I2 Technology)TM
 Block-level, infinite incremental
design eliminates the need for
second full backup
 Uses less disk space and
network bandwidth
 Works in conjunction with
deduplication, to improve
capacity savings
 Ideal for cloud or remote site
protection
 Significant backup job merge
performance improvements, as
only the deduplication index file
needs to be updated, when
duplicate recovery point data
exists

  1. Script: A primary functionality that Unified Data Protection brings is an enhanced merge process. Previously the merge process ran on production machines that were backed up with D2D. Merging is a resource intensive process that negatively impacted the production machine, causing it to run inefficiently. This process is now streamlined, more efficient and processes on the Recovery Point Server instead of the production machine, thereby freeing up the protected machine to function more efficiently. There are various back end technologies at play here as well that have enabled us to greatly speed up the processes involved which results in drastically faster merge processes. The benefits of this are two fold: The merge process no longer runs on the production machine so the it runs more efficiently, and the merge process itself is now drastically faster than it was in the past so the overall backup process is quicker. [click-2 second delay to graphic] With the new functionality, the merge process no longer runs on the protected machines.
