Our Sudan was a unique endeavor, a film made in Sudan, by Sudanese, for Sudanese with money raised not from international donor agencies but through an online campaign targeting the Sudanese diaspora and through the in kind support and professional expertise of local companies and NGOs including DAL Group, In the City, Sudia and Jafro records.
The project drew on a cast and crew of thirty volunteers, recording two films (one in Arabic and one in English) in under two months and providing an opportunity for a group of young Sudanese to work together, forge friendships based on shared endeavor, learn the skills of film making and project management and produce something that we are all deeply proud of. All of this in the challenging and difficult environment.
The equipment bought for the film is going to be donated to TEDx Khartoum and we now have a team with skills and experience in film making. So not only did you support an exciting new film but you invested in Sudan’s future. .
Since the release of the English version of Our Sudan on 6th of June 2013 the film has been viewed over 63,000 times and continues to be watched by hundreds of people every day. The Arabic version released in early August has clocked over 8000 viewings and counting. Meaning that together the Our Sudan films have in only a few short months been viewed by over 70,000 people.
We have had dozens of messages public and private from Sudanese; young and old; saying how much the film meant to them, reminding them of the countries potential and its promise. A young woman inspired to come back and serve her country, a film maker moved to share his vision and Sudanese activists in Washington DC setting up their own project to remind Sudanese in America to think more positively about Sudan.... are just a few of the stories we have heard.
Last week we received the final installment of the Our Sudan project - T-shirts, posters and CDs - courtesy of the support and sponsorship of the DAL group. These will be used to thank the people who invested in the project financially and temporally and will be posted to our supporters all around the world.
Few did more to make this project happen than you and as small token of our appreciation we will be sending you all a package of thanks.
Once again. Thank you...... Thank you.
Stay strong and speak soon
