17. Children’s Reading Center & Museum A joint venture of Young at Art Children’s Museum & Broward County Libraries Children’s Reading Center & Museum will be built on almost 12 acres of land and will consist of a 55, 000 sq ft building containing a 10,000 sq ft reading center and a 42,000 sq ft museum/instructional areas and 3,000 sq ftshared space. The synergy of a museum, library and art park will create a sense of community and shared experience. The cultural arts complex will have a seamless flow of programming, integrating and expanding artistic and academic literacy, providing authentic, meaningful arts and multi-cultural experiences that engage children and adults on pathways to lifelong learning.

Lauderhill Cultural Center & Library at Central Broward Regional Park The ArtsPark/Cultural Center portion of the Regional Park will consist of an approximately 20,000 sq ft facility built together with a new County library (10,000 sq.ft.) in one building. Envisioned in the Cultural Center are an exhibit gallery, art studios, dressing areas, 300-500 seat theater, computer graphics classroom, and dance studio.

19. ArtServe Gallery and Gift Shop & the Main Library Located on the 2nd floor of the Main Library the ArtServe gallery and gift shop offers library patrons the opportunity to view and purchase artwork and hand-made items made by local artists.

Cultural Information Center & the Main Library Located on the first floor of the Main Library the CIC is a one-stop shop for information about arts and entertainment events and other happenings in downtown Fort Lauderdale and Broward County. 61. Northwest Regional Library Partner: Coral Springs Charter 6th-12th grades, 1,600 students. Sharing resources (uses NOR as media center during school hours). Media specialist has an office in the library and available during and after school. Informal partnership – based on a memo of understanding (not a signed contract). Library Hours and School Hours: by school request, library hours can be adjusted to open early for students. (7:30 a.m.)Staffed by BCL librarians. Collection Development: Coral Springs Charter Media Specialist has an annual budget of $10,000, and orders the materials for the school curriculum which are integrated into the BCL collection.

62. Southwest Regional Library Partner: Pembroke Pines Charter High School 9TH -12TH grades, 1700 students. Sharing resources (uses SWR as media center during school hours). Informal partnership . Library Hours and School Hours: by school request, library hours were adjusted two mornings a week (7:30 a.m.) Staffed by volunteers and Security. Collection Development: Youth Services Librarians coordinate ordering materials with the Media Specialist to avoid duplication. City of Pembroke Pines provides the Media Specialist with a book budget for the high school curriculum. BCL Librarians use these funds to purchase materials which are integrated into the BCL collection. Partnership support for BCL Policy (code of conduct): Crucial to keep the school and administration informed about BCL policies and any student suspensions.

63. Pembroke Pines Branch Partner: Walter C. Young Middle School 6TH-8TH grades, 1710 students. Sharing resources (uses PE as media center during school hours and uses meeting rooms as classrooms). Formal partnership agreement – between the School Board of Broward County and Broward County (dated 12/15/92). Library Hours and School Hours: Library Director and Superintendent of Schools negotiated the contract to serve the school. (8:00 a.m. during week and closed on weekends.) Media Specialist is visible at the library before and after school hours. Library’s operation and services provided by BCL staff. Collection Development: County responsible for costs of library materials. The School Board purchases all additional materials to meet the curriculum needs of faculty and students. Security: There is increased security at PE with the presence of students (gated parking lots and library subject to campus lockdowns and evacuations.) This policy change is a result of the Jessica Lunsford Act.
