What is “windows 7”?


Most Recent version of Microsoft Windows
Operating system.



Windows 7 was released to Manufacturing on July
22,2009,and reached general retail availability on
October 22,2009.


Boot time is fast. On the same computer, Vista booted in

approximately 80 seconds. Windows 7 booted in 50 seconds.
That's about a 38% fast boot time with Windows 7 .


Applications load faster. With Vista it took approximately 30

seconds. Windows 7 loaded in 20 seconds


The installation is faster than Windows Vista


Performance : Windows 7 starts, shuts down, and resumes
from Standby faster than earlier versions of Windows.



Reliability :Reliability improvements in Windows 7 include
a Fault Tolerant Heap that resolves common memory
management issues.



Application Compatibility :A key engineering goal for
Microsoft is that software that runs on Windows Vista will

run as well or better on Windows 7.
.


Device Compatibility : As with software, Microsoft set an
engineering goal that devices that work with Windows Vista will
also work with Windows 7—and has greatly expanded the list of

devices and peripherals that are being tested for compatibility


Security : Windows 7 delivers new capabilities to better protect
your security and privacy, and makes existing security features

such as User Account Control and Windows Defender easier to
use.


Improved Battery Life : Improvements to power management in

Windows 7 will help extend the battery life of your mobile PC.

Jump Lists
Jump Lists provide users with quick access to a mini-Start
menu containing lists of pictures, music, word documents
or links that they use most frequently.

Libraries
Instead of having all files and folders organized under the
familiar Documents folder, Windows 7 features separate
Libraries for specific content types such as contacts,
documents, downloads, music, pictures and videos.

Sharing with HomeGroup
Home Groups let you easily link Windows 7 computers on
your home network to share pictures, music, videos,
documents and devices such as a printer.

The Aero Desktop is really nothing more than a
collection of window and desktop behaviors that make
Windows 7 the prettiest version of the operating system
to date. Features such as Aero Snap let you quickly
organize open windows and transparency makes it easy
to see what’s underneath other windows. With Windows
XP think opaque, with Windows 7, think translucent.
If you give lots of presentations, you’ll welcome a new
tool in Windows 7 that makes it easy for you to display
your Windows 7 portable computer’s desktop on a
projector. Just press the Windows logo key + P and you’ll
see the pop-up box shown in Fig.


New Taskbar

Windows 7 desktop will look different now because of the new
taskbar. You can now reorder the opened Window buttons. It has
Jump Lists feature which will allow you to access common
programs very easily. And you can see the full screen preview
before switching to a window.


Performance and User Friendly

Windows 7 will reduce the time to install an app. Also,
now Windows will be less annoying with very less UAC
prompt. For developers also, Win7 will reduce the time
taken for developing Windows app.
 Security

Vista has never been known for having good security.
UAC or User Account Control was introduced with Vista
and later kept in Windows 7 but with additional controls
and improved functionality. UAC is simply a security
feature that helps to block viruses and malware. Although
it isn’t bullet proof, it certainly limits what certain types
of malware can do to your PC.






Windows 8 was produced by Microsoft for use on
personal computers, including home and business
desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs.
Development of this operating system started before
the release of its predecessor in 2009.
Its existence was first announced in January 2011 at
Consumer Electronics Show.
During its development and test phases, Microsoft
released three pre-release versions:
 Developer Preview (September 13, 2011),
 Consumer Preview (February 29, 2012), and
 Release Preview (May 31, 2012).
On August 1, 2012, Windows 8 graduated from the
development stage and was released to manufacturing.
Windows 8 is slated for general availability on October
26, 2012.

Graphical user interface :- A new design used by Microsoft.
A new Start screen to replace the Start menu used by
previous versions of Windows.
A new online store that can be used to obtain applications,
described as a "fast and fluid" experience with emphasis on
touchscreen input.
Additional security features were also added to the
operating system, such as a built-in antivirus program and a
secure boot feature on systems with UEFI firmware.
Windows 8 also introduces an edition of the operating
system designed to run on devices that utilize the ARM
architecture, known as Windows RT.
