4. INTRODUCTION
Music of Nepal refers to the various musical genres of
Nepal. With more than fifty ethnicities, the music of this
country is a highly dispersed phenomenon. Although genres
like pop, rock, folk, and Classical music exist, a huge number
of such genres are yet to be cataloged. Many musical bands
exist in Nepal, with a huge number in Kathmandu - most of
the recent ones focused in pop and rock. Rap has been
known to emerge on the charts from time to time. Also
bands have revolunished the music of Nepal.

Nepal’s Musical Ambassador to the World
The bansuri (Nepali: ,) is a transverse alto flute Nepal made
from a single hollow shaft of bamboo with six or seven finger
holes.
8. DAMAHA
A damaha (Nepali: ) is a drum made from leather and wood. It is played by
striking with a stick. It is one of the instrument included in the Panche Baaja.
9. DAMPHU DRUM
Damphu, or Damfoo,(Nepali: ) is a double-sided disk-shaped drum topped with
leather and with a long wooden handle.This is a very rare musical instrument belonging
to the indigenous Tamang Community. Damphu is a percussion instrument similar to a
big tambourine. This instrument is used to melodiously play Tamang selo. The popular
ancient folk instrument Damphu and an original rhythm of Tamang Selo have unique
importance and influence among other Nepalese cultural folk music. This instrument is
very easy to play and easy to learn.
10. DHIMAY
Dhimay or Dhimaya (Nepal Bhasa: ) is a double-headed
cylindrical drum with a big wooden or metallic body. It a type
of struck drum, technically a membranophone
11. JHYALI
Jhyali or Jhyalis (Nepali: ) are traditional folk instruments from
Nepal. They are a kind of Percussion instruments similar to cymbals.
Jhyalis are used are a pair of round plates which are made from alloys.
They are used in folk as well as classical music in Nepal.
12. MADAL
The Madal (Nepali: ), double-headed drum of Nepalese origin (of the
Membranophone family), used mainly for rhythm-keeping in Nepalese folk music, is
the most popular and widely used hand drum in Nepal.The Madal consists of a
cylindrical body with a slight bulge at its center, closed on both ends (the sides are
often referred to as "heads", one head is smaller than the other).
Nepali musician Ranjit Gazmer introduced this instrument to Bollywood music and has used
it in many Bollywood songs such as 'Hum dono do premi duniya chhod chale', 'Kanchha re
kanchhi re' and many others.
13. PANCHE BAAJA
A set of Panche Baaja which are commonly used in hilly region of Nepal.
Panche Baaja (Nepali: )is a set of five traditional Nepali musical
instruments that are played during holy ceremonies like marriage. Panche Baajas
are usually played by Damais, a Dalit caste according to Hindu tradition. The
exact collection of a panche baja's components include The jhyali, tyamko, or
dholak (drums), damaha (kettledrum), narsiha (a long horn-like instrument),
Shehnai (a pipe instrument), and Karnal, (a big-mouthed instrument).
14. SARANGI
The Sarangi (Nepali: ) is a folk Nepalese string instrument. Unlike
Classical Indian Sarangi, it has four strings and all of them are played.
Traditionally, in Nepal, Sarangi was only played by people of Gandarva or
Gaine cast, who sings narrative tales and folk song.[1] However, in present
days, its widely used and played by many.
15. TUNGANA
The tungana is a plucked string instrument from Nepal. It is made from a
single carved piece of wood and topped with a skin. They usually have 4
strings.
18. ANJU PANT KOMAL OLI
Famous female singers of Nepal. Anju Pant has been involved in modern
Nepali singing where as Komal Oli is in Lok Dohoris(one of the Folk
music of Nepal).

25. CONCLUSION
Music of Nepal has changed since years. In ancient age it
was just limited to Lok Dohori(FOLK MUSIC). But it
has now reached hip-hop and pop. We living in the
urbanized area of Nepal feel like folk music and old
generas of Nepali music has lost. But we forget that
more than 60 % of Nepal's land is suburbanized. And in
those places people don’t prefer music which we listen.
Also contribution of people belonging from lower caste
is more towards music. We can see the impact of western
music too in Nepali music.
