2. How EFFECTIVE TRAINING helps in learning
• An effective trainer creates, seeks, and finds
opportunities for learning.
•An effective trainer uses a variety of methods
to present their message(s) to their audience(s).
•An effective trainer understands the advantages and
disadvantages of various training methods, and uses
the best method for a given training situation.
3. DIFFERENT TRAINING METHODS
• Lectures
• Talks
• Demonstrations
• Discussions
• Case studies
• Role playing
• Simulations
• Brainstorming
• Buzz groups
• Questions & Answers
• Learning centers
• Reflection
4. WHAT IS A DEMONSTRATION?
DM is one in which the student observes the portrayal of
procedure, technique, or operation.
The demonstration method shows how to do something or how
something works.
Demonstration involves showing by reason or proof explaining or making
clear by use of examples or experiments
This method is a visual display of how something works or how to do
something. As an example, trainer shows the trainees how to perform or
how to do the tasks of the job. In order to be more
effective, demonstration method should be accompanied by the
discussion or lecture method.
When a trainer has the audience actually perform a task by showing and
explaining how to do it, this is called a demonstration.
During a demonstration, the audience is encouraged to ask questions and
request assistance as they try to do the task by themselves.
THE DEMONSTRATION METHOD
5. WHEN SHOULD DEMONSTRATIONS BE USED?
• The demonstration method is effective when teaching
skills.
• Demonstrations are appropriate when there is plenty of
time for interaction because practice is necessary to
master most skills.
• Demonstrations are best for small groups, or when
adequate staff is available to work with a large group.
6. Guidelines for Its Effective Use
BEFORE DURING AFTER
The demonstrator must be
skilled and knowledgeable.
The place must be quiet. Allow some questions.
Make sure that the materials
to be used are available.
Extreme care must be
taken in performing
some delicate steps.
Examination
All the equipment and tools to
be used should be ready
ahead of time.
Activity must not be
interrupted by
unnecessary noise.
Analysis of trends,
patterns.
The demonstrator must try
everything to be
demonstrated.
Taking notes are allowed
while observing.
Conclusion undertaken by
the class.
Observers must be motivated. Short test. Oral
evaluation. Performance.
Demonstrator must be
flexible about on-the-spot
revisions.
Proper room arrangment.
7. DEMONSTRATION METHOD PROS &
CONS
ADVANTAGES:
It sets standards by showing exactly how a thing is to be done
and the degree of proficiency required to meet objective.
The demonstration appeals both to the sense of sight and
hearing. The method saves time since principles, theories, and
operations can usually be shown more quickly then they can be
explained. Good for VA
It follows a systematic procedure
Demonstrations provide a hands-on
experience (hear, see, do).
Participants have plenty of interaction with trainers, and
everyone is allowed to progress at their own pace as they master
the skill.
8. DRAWBACKS:
Since trainee do not actively participate in all demonstration, there
is less reinforcement of training if this method is used alone.
•Thus, this method should be followed with a practical exercise in
which the trainer do participate.
Demonstrations require a lot of preparation, time, materials, and
patience. The time allotted for demonstrations must be flexible.
It is important to insure every participant has an opportunity to
master the skill being taught.
Hands-on activities can be a potential source of
frustration, especially in the case of complex skills. It may be
necessary to offer supplementary help (e.g. a follow-up session) for
participants having difficulty.
