3. ARCHITECTURAL THESIS : SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT TYPE : ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL
CLIENT : UNDERGRADUATE THESIS
AREA : 132396 SQ.FT
LOCATION : CHERIYAKONI,.KERALA
DESIGNINTENT :
My intent for
taking up an architecture school
was strong as I always believed in
interaction design .associated
with architecture and who more
than me could explain myself the
needs of an architecture student
in a school.
The challenge was
to create a building where it
should become an exemplar of
what the school believes as good
architecture.
The design was shaped to the
contour and the profile of the site
and levels were created
accordingly to contours
underneath .

5. DESIGNIDEOLOGY :
The design objective
is to form a kind of a total
environment where the participants
must necessarily interact unlike
training centers where it would
require a more personal and holistic
approach. To create spatial
probability where you get a chance
to strike up a conversation informally
as in this case a place to build a
good
teacherteacher
teacherstudent
studentstudent
Relationship to enhance the
learning process rather than
succumb to “we teach you listen”
culture.
AMPHITHEATRE:
The central
amphitheatre is a multi-utility space
representing a courtyard from
where various entrances were
worked out to shun logical
sequence off movement from open
to inside. This also helped to
connect distant pats of the campus
visually.
DESIGNCRIT :
As an architecture
school must be interested in
creating ideas and perpetuating
values hence the concept of closed
crit should be abolished. where the
student is evaluated in a closed
room the fellow students do not get
to learn the evaluated student
strengths/mistakes as this type of
evaluation only ends in between the
walls also restricts new learning.
Hence long planar
surfaces with walkways were
created where one would put up
their designs and would be easily
accessible and also for a concept
of moving population as in a school
also the better works would survive
for the next arrival of fellow juniors
04
6. DESIGNSTUDIO :
A deep universal space with
multiple light sources and an effort to cut
heat gain establishing a good
relationship with the occupant and the
volume.
Two volumes are interlocked with each
other to create an ambiguous distribution
of space creating a sense of one large
spatial volume.
As hot air and fast winds are synonymous
to the place there are windows on the
top of the wall where it carries the hot
wind not allowing to stagnant in the
lecture/design hall
DESIGNCRIT :
A multi configurable
curriculum needs a multi configurable
classroom so to create a clean volume of
space with minimal hindrance in the
volume parallel walls with beams running
at smaller intervals were implemented In
undergraduate design studios.
LECTURE MODEL MAKING CRIT STUDIO
SUMMARY :
It was an effort to bring in a unified campus
,but also sometimes open to modification
and adjustments. Between the inter
disciplinary population.

7. AIRCRAFT SHELTER
PROJECT TYPE : SHELTER FOR AIRCRAFT
CLIENT : RAJALAKSMI ENGINEERING COLLEGE
AREA : 3660 SQ.FT
LOCATION : THANDALAM,CHENNAI
DESIGNINTENT :
The idea of this design kick started
with an issue to protect the existing aircraft Aeronica
L3 from natural climate conditions.
The secondary aim arrived from the
strategic location of the site which at the entrance
of the campus would serve the purpose of first
impression for the campus
hand sketch
FORM+ MATERIAL
FORM : The form was
inspired from an early form
of a stealth fighter
„LOCKHEED hopeless
diamond 'with a strong
angular features asserting
visual dominance in the
campus
MATERIAL : Material of this
structure was cost driven
so as to bring down the
cost and increase the
ease of construction
Material used are
Corrugated metal sheet
, Tubular steel and
polycarbonate sheet.

9. DESIGNINTENT : Model and Photoshop
Transparent
acrylic sheets used to
weaken the links between
the outside and the inside
Inclined roof plane making
an oblique angle with the
inside space gushing out.
An element with a limited
functionality and a strong
emphasis on aesthetics was Model and Photoshop
the base of this design. The
shape creates a secluded
visual point to where the
aircraft is visible when viewed
at the front end of shelter

10. RESIDENCE FOR TWO CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS
PROJECT TYPE : RESIDENCE
CLIENT : Mr.SRIRAM RAJEEVAN
AREA : 3440 SQ.FT
LOCATION : CHROMPET,CHENNAI
DESIGNINTENT :
The aim of this
project was to have two
individual stacked housing unit
each 3BHK for the 2 brothers .
The challenge
was to convince the dweller
that a home was more than a
calculation of cost of brick and
mortar rather a personal and
unique space to live the rest of
their lives.
DESIGNAPPROACH : PLANNING + FUNCTION
The planning profile was driven by
two factors vasthu and the trees on site .The
profile of the house was created around the
existing trees.
The side setbacks all around the
house were covered with pergola to introduce
soothing light by cutting out the heat.
The house was vertically
separated between 2 brothers connected by 2
staircases one in front and another through the
service area of the house.
09
12. ELEMENTPLAY :
This house was
built on a demolished site so
retain the character of the
previous 1967 house the tulsi
kattai had to be seen once
the main door was opened.
Light was
punctured inside the house by
creating a dark space and
opening up hole through
which the light strew in ,also
large openings were made
where the family's beloved
tree would become a part of
their daily life.
At some parts
the clay blocks were flipped
so the pores were the facade.
This created a form of wind
tunnel pushing the air through
the house.

14. ADWAY AQUA MINERAL PVT. LTD.
PROJECT TYPE : OFFICE
CLIENT : NDR GROUP OF COMPANIES
AREA : 4500 SQ.FT
LOCATION : GUINDY,CHENNAI
DESIGNINTENT :
Placed in urban grid with
the site adjacent to the main road the
objective was to attain a distinction and
identity for the office. An already existing
house had to be renovated into an office
In this project the idea was to come forth
with a solution where the building would
become a “eye-catcher” in a subtle
format.
Going with the theme of water bottle and
water bubble top one of the things in
common was the cylindrical shape of it.
Hence taking it as a sign the design of the
Sketch and Photoshop façade had been evolved.
MATERIALFORM :
Here an
opportunity to create a iconic
façade arrived hence the use of
corrugated metal sheets smeared
with heat redundant paint was
considered. The sheets were
applied in segments bending to
the profile of the structural
elements. The façade became a
single whole volume of a
commercial catalogue for the
enterprise
13
15. PLANNINGFUNCTION :
In the
planning process the
hierarchical relationship were
marked by differences in
levels where the logistics were
operative in the lower floor
and management on the
upper and intermediate..
An intermediate Sketch and Photoshop
level was created for the
“M.D” of the office where it
was perceived as a
interlocking accessible entity
for the two floors.
The distinction of two office
functions in logistics were
attributed by an exposed
cement wall and the tree.
The wall was angled in order
to highlight the point of entry
and to limit the visual access
to the unloading bay.
As for the
façade a new skin was
provided in order of the
concept. This skin covered the
major part of the structure thus
cutting the heat but as it was
of metal louvers were
provided at sides to whisk
away the heat contained in
the space.
Sketch and Photoshop
14
16. INTERACTIVESPACES:
Two spaces in
the office where there was a
complete absence of formal
precedence of administrative
heads/ hierarchical superiority
were the front yard and pantry
.
A cement
bench was created for people
who want to cool off below the
tree after a period of strenuous
work.
The pantry
was enveloped by the façade
skin which also made it a large
voluminous place .The blue
acrylic sheet creating a
trademark blue tint in the
pantry.

17. RESIDENCE FOR THE WEEKEND
PROJECT TYPE : RESIDENCE
CLIENT : Mr.RAGHURAM
AREA : 3560 SQ.FT
LOCATION : SRI PERAMBATHUR,CHENNAI
DESIGNINTENT :
A weekend home for a
family of four requiring a 2BHK to spend
their weekend vacation .
The site presented itself
an added advantage of a pond on Sketch and Photoshop
eastern side which provided a scenic
view during the rains.
Experimenting with
alternative building material and
construction technology was also
implemented to curtail the cost.
DESIGNAPPROACH :
The planning concept was
modeled after a profile of the church where the
nave consisted the living room overlooking the
pond the bedrooms at the transepts ,the kitchen
replacing the chancel and the common bath at
the altar.
Hollow clay blocks were used as
alternate to bricks ,Bituminous shingles over steel
framed roof were used and fiber-cement boards
as siding for the roof. As the outside house is also
an important part of a weekend home
sunbreakers in form of pergolas were used at
rear part of the house
16
19. DESIGNEXPLORE :
The façade
and interiors were a
combination of plastered
white surface and exposed
clay blocks altering between
them created a combination
of a subtle and strong
character.
This mass also assisted in
maintaining a cooler inner
temperature which was the
call of the day lack of any
natural form of heat
curtailment.
Thin steel rafters were used
in this construction as in
presence of a lighter roof load
in the form of bituminous
shingles. The rafters were
supported by concrete and
stone columns
All electrical lines were
running through a P.C.C band
at 3‟ ht. making it easier to
access and away from visual
reach.
The shrine was separated
from the main house making it
a secluded place for spiritual
Endeavour.
