Digital TV and Training of Teachers
Author Angel Ernesto Ceballos Van Grieken: ceballos_angel@hotmail.com
Introduction
The following paper describes the importance of including in teacher training programs:
technological and educational use of the tools that Information and Communication
Technologies offer the teaching and learning process, according to statistics gathered
through research, it is important that today computers and Internet networking technologies
are enjoying great power of penetration in Latin American society and are often the
preferred technologies when mentioning and highlighting the educational uses of
technology, ignoring cell technology and digital television, both technologies enjoy
American household penetration. The work presented demonstrates the technology gap
between teachers and students, this gap can be reduced by training teachers. The study
shows that technological training is more effective if performed during the teacher training,
and who are in the stage of cognitive training, allowing the relationship between strategies
and resources to use.
2. Technological gap between Teachers and Students
Teachers and students are more people who are related to the teaching and learning process.
These two actors in a gap in age, which brings as a consequence, different needs, priorities
and environment in which they operate, these differences are reflected in the use of
technologies. It is the aim of the educational system adapt to the environment, tools and
equipment to handle the students. The best way to reduce the digital divide by training
teachers in the use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education. The
problem in this type of solution is that teacher training is done after graduation. This paper
presents the best solution is to do it during training and teaching of the individual, taking
advantage of cognitive training to better design strategies and resources that can merge to
better the dual technology - education.
Theoretical Foundations : Inclusion of Information and Communication Technologies
in Education.
Is extensive discussion in the scientific community about the theoretical foundations of the
inclusion of Information and Communication Technologies in Education. From this work,
the contribution is made to contribute to the theoretical justification of this process, I
selected Sociological and cultural theory of Lev Vygotsky and his foundation on which
human development can be explained solely in terms of social interaction. Vygotsky argues
that human development involves the internalization of cultural instruments initially not
ours, but belong to the group of people in which we are born. The Information and
Communication Technologies are cultural instruments and societies, young students
appropriated these tools for communication, for this reason, education, and comprehensive
system that transmits cultural products from one generation to another, take consider the
technology to be used as teaching and learning tools. Within the theory of Lev Vygotsky
found the Cultural Genetics of Development Law, the author of this work, promptly seeks
to explain and justify the use of technology in education means basing on
interpsychological the individual level and then daily interaction with the technology, and
has assumed the plane intrapsychological, internalizing accomplishing it. As this theory
explains what happens to language as societies cultural instrument.
3. Digital TV to support education.
Television is the medium of communication and information that has endured over time
without the occurrence therein the most significant change has a great popularity among
Latin American societies that often exceeds the number of single household equipment.
Today there is the necessary migration from analogue to digital TV due to technological
advances in data transmission and quality of content offered to users.
Digital TV has the following characteristics to be taken into account all the teachers that
relate to the educational use of technology:
- Better image definition and increased channel capacity.
- Mobility: moving possible reception.
- Portability: reception of digital television signal in portable and mobile.
- Flexibility: use of the system for different applications and services.
- Multiple transmissions simulcast content.
- Interactivity: ability to interact with the system and responds to user requests.
Of all the characteristics presented above, it is important to emphasize the aspect of
mobility and interactivity of digital television systems, allowing users to receive interactive
educational content in a wide range of equipment. Interactivity in digital television , allow
the user the following educational activities:
- Choose camera angles
- Answer surveys the educational process.
- Voting in elections and real time virtual: accept offers educational courses of an
institution.
- Make complaints, suggestions or questions to authorities of any school or subject teacher.
- Find jobs or scholarships.
4. - Reply to educational content that are simulations or demonstrations , in order to apply
knowledge acquired in the classroom or educational programs televised.
Studying the possibilities of digital television, we bring out the educational potential of this
technology, coupled with this, the monetary investment would be minimal, since the
existence of adapters, receivers, antennas and decoders along with the funding and
implementation plans that have Latin American governments mentioned guarantee the right
of access to the open digital television signal.
Conclusion
No doubt the digital and interactive media will be the strongest of the Information and
Communication Technologies in the future. Latin American governments have already
made decisions about digital TV standards and set goals for the digital switchover, which
will no longer broadcast analog signal, giving way to digital television. It is a necessity and
priority of education institutions, especially those designed to train education professionals
and teachers, focusing on the development of strategies, resources and educational content
for these technologies. The research presented along with recommendations given, shows
that if the technology gap decreases between teachers and students can achieve greater
efficiency in the process of teaching and learning motivation of students and less chance of
dropouts.
