This document outlines a school project asking students to create a website illustrating the factors that contribute to human catastrophes. Students will work in groups of three or less. The website must use multimedia content to examine a particular human catastrophe. Before beginning the project, students are instructed to analyze example websites to learn good design practices and acquire skills in web design, multimedia creation, and animation tools.

• Within a group of no more than three, create
a website that has multi-media content, to
illustrate the many factors which have caused
a particular human catastrophe.
• Usual documentation of the design cycle and
the final product apply.

4. Human Catastrophes
• Definition of a human catastrophe, or a ‘man-
made’ disaster:
– “Man-made disasters are the consequence of
technological or human hazards. Examples
include stampedes, fires, transport accidents,
industrial accidents, oil spills and nuclear
explosions/radiation. War and deliberate attacks
may also be put in this category.”

out/structured
