- And we developed ways to explore the cutting edge whilst still delivering our work.R&D a culture, not a project

- And so when my boss gave me a copy of this book:
- And told me to order a 3D printer….I knew immediately what I wanted to do.
- I’m going to 3d print a model of myself in Carbonite.
- Turns out it’s not that simple…We’ve got a lot to learn…
- The spool that comes with the printer is rubbish and keeps sticking.Open source community had provided a printable replacement…Extend it
- Air duct causing the prints to curl. Find and print another one
- Complete strip down of the printerFaulty temp sensor
- Already knew how to pull a mesh from a point cloud.Learn new techniques to make a mesh printableNot enough detail in the face.
- Photogrammetry instead gave much more detail
- Yet more software
- Refining our skills
- Experimenting with the printer settings to get an optimum print
- So then, take part A, add to part B right?
- Not quite…and this was just last week. :-/
- BUT…Because I REALLY want to be Han Solo.And because we had to learn so much
- We knew just what we had to do to fix it…And here it is!Just goes to show what you can learn by playing with toys….
