2. Summary The primary object of our analysis : Trust Different Kinds of Trust “There is little room for trust among the states” From hostility to friendship Why trust is so relevant in the NPT? The Brazil-Iran-Turkey Deal Why trust Iran? Conclusion
3. 1. The primary object of our analysis : Trust Is a key element in the creation and existence of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The states need to trust that costs and benefits derived from other’s will materialize, otherwise it would make little sense for them to act isolated in the treaty.
4. 2. Different Kinds of Trust Rationalist – Value the importance of interests in the establishment of trust. “Encapsulated Interests”. Binding – Believe that the notion of trust is directly connected with the idea that the actors will honour their promises.
5. 3. “There is little room for trust among the states” Some typical visions about trust in international relations claim that trust can’t really exist in the anarchical realm, since there is an uncertainty about the states behaviour. This uncertainty would be the responsible for the fact that the states always prepare themselves for the worst, making it impossible to trust each others.
6. 4. From hostility to friendship Other theories believe that the uncertainty should not follow the fear. By doing that, they would be making cooperation possible. States Interact with each other in many ways, what suggest that those interactions span the range from hostility to friendship.
7. 5. Why trust is so relevant in the NPT? Because the original agreement doesn’t allow the vast majority of the signatories to develop nuclear weapons. As a consequence, those signatories have their capability of achieving national security by military means limited.
8. 6. The Brazil-Iran-Turkey Deal Tehran agreed to send some 1.200 Kg of its 3.5 percent enriched uranium over to Turkey Turkey will send to Iran 120 kg of 20 percent enriched uranium.
9. 7. Why trust Iran? Iran reaffirmed their commitment to the NPT, so he has the same right that the others signatories have to develop research, product and use nuclear energy, as well as the obligation to not acquire nuclear weapons. Nothing has been proved about the suspicion that Iran is trying to produce nuclear weapons. Iran showed, in the Brazil-Iran-Turkey agreement, the will to use nuclear energy in peaceful activities.
10. 8. Conclusion The International Community should recognize Iran’s rights and obligations in the NPT. Iran should honour his position by not developing nuclear weapons. Iran should also allow the inspecting of their nuclear activities by the UN responsible agency for that.
