- This is John Ambrose Fleming, he was an electrical engineer and physicist. In 1903 he was giving a public demonstration of wireless telegraphy technology Nevil Maskelyne intercepted the messages and started broadcasting insulting morse code messages through the auditoriums projector. This was the first recorded hack in history.
- For the next 90 years, Hacking was always considered to be a negative action. Something done to disrupt momentum of organizations, steal data, or win wars.
- In the 1990âs everything changed. The term âHackathonâ was first coined by OpenBSD and Sun Microsystems in 1999 It is used to describe the playful manipulation of programming to solve problems
- Now, some of the biggest companies in the world are built from the foundations of the hacking mentality. Move fast, break things.

- When hacking, there is no such thing as failure. The majority of hack projects will never see a public release, and thatâs cool. Because the reasons we hack arenât defined by business, we do it because we want to learn. We want to collaborate, experiment, and expand our creative thinking.
- Most importantly, hacking is fun. We get to solve problems as a collective, tackling briefs without the constraints of budgets, technologies, or brand guidelines. And thatâs why weâve decided to host the Hack Festival, we want you all to be able to build upon your ideas.
- Weâve got a great selection of tech here today, including; 2 Parrot AR Drones, Google Glass, Oculus Rift, LEAP Motions, Makey Makeyâs, various Tablets and Mobiles, and Arduino kits. Itâs all located on our device bench by the sofaâs.
