Safety may seem like a simple issue that doesn’t need discussion, but it can bring up some interesting questions about who is responsible for an intern if something happens at the internship site. We’re going to go through some questions that will bring these issues into focus.

Talk about how employers have identified critical thinking as one of the biggest areas where today’s students lack experience and skills. Have students talk about ways to approach problems and projects. Can’t just ask what do I do? Think of some focused questions you can ask.
Discuss using company time for company work, talk about offices that monitor internet usage. How do you handle criticism from your supervisor? What is employer really saying to you? They’re thinking that you aren’t serious, you aren’t going to work out with them.
Examples if student can’t think of anything: Gary is having an affair with the secretary, Gary is getting divorced and wife is taking him to court, Gary has been reprimanded by supervisor, Gary is using company time/resources to run a side business that no one knows about Don’t get sucked into office gossip if possible. Ask them for other responses that will squelch the gossiper from seeking you out. What is legitimate vs what is nonsense. How do you handle these two situations?
