African-American revolutionary socialist organization active in the United States from
  1966 until 1982. The movement , and
inspired by Malcolm X's call to "freedom, by any means necessary."

The party was one of the first
organizations in U.S. history to
struggle for the ethnic minority
and working class population — a
party whose aim was the
revolutionary establishment of
real economic, social, and political
equality across gender and colour
lines.

Original six Black Panthers (November, 1966)
Founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seal for self-defence.
The main purpose of the BPP was to during a
period of time when most African Americans could not make much progress. In
  many poor neighbourhoods
and the BPP filled this void.

 Self defence was taught to
discipline its members so that some
sense of organization could be put
 in place.

              and most of the
 ideology was based on Socialist
 principles.

Armed with the 10 step program the BPP had a clear vision, goals and objectives
that endeared many young men and women who became staunch members of the
BPP.
1.WE WANT FREEDOM. WE WANT POWER TO DETERMINE THE DESTINY OF OUR BLACK AND
OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES.

2. WE WANT FULL EMPLOYMENT FOR OUR PEOPLE.

3. WE WANT AN END TO THE ROBBERY BY THE CAPITALISTS OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED
COMMUNITIES.

4. WE WANT DECENT HOUSING, FIT FOR THE SHELTER OF HUMAN BEINGS.

5. WE WANT DECENT EDUCATION FOR OUR PEOPLE THAT EXPOSES THE TRUE NATURE OF THIS
DECADENT AMERICAN SOCIETY. WE WANT EDUCATION THAT TEACHES US OUR TRUE HISTORY
AND OUR ROLE IN THE PRESENT-DAY SOCIETY.

6. WE WANT COMPLETELY FREE HEALTH CARE FOR All BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE.

7. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK PEOPLE, OTHER
PEOPLE OF COLOR, All OPPRESSED PEOPLE INSIDE THE UNITED STATES.

8. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO ALL WARS OF AGGRESSION.

9. WE WANT FREEDOM FOR ALL BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE NOW HELD IN U. S. FEDERAL,
STATE, COUNTY, CITY AND MILITARY PRISONS AND JAILS. WE WANT TRIALS BY A JURY OF PEERS
FOR All PERSONS CHARGED WITH SO-CALLED CRIMES UNDER THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY.

10. WE WANT LAND, BREAD, HOUSING, EDUCATION, CLOTHING, JUSTICE, PEACE AND PEOPLE'S
COMMUNITY CONTROL OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY.
is an American professor of law, known for
her involvement with the Black Panther
Party.
Kathleen met the minister of
information for the Black Panther
Party, Eldridge Cleaver. She moved to
San Francisco in November, 1967, to
join the Black Panther Party. Kathleen
Neal and Eldridge Cleaver were married
on December 27, 1967. Cleaver became
the communications secretary and the

                                    She
also served as the spokesperson and
press secretary. Also, she organized the
national campaign to free the Party’s
minister of defence, Huey Newton, who
was jailed.
An aim of the Black Panthers was to

                                      .
Through this they aimed to increase the
spread of wealth and power to non-white
minorities, in order to be able to
nationalise once they could rely on
themselves.
Another action taken by the Black Panther
Party was
. This was done to raise support
for the party, but also to help the poor
blacks, especially those in ghettos. These
programs included the provision of free
breakfasts to children, the establishment of
free medical clinics, the giving away of free http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
clothing and food, the establishment of =VwLpoy0nfng
community control of schools and the
organization of campaigns against drug
abuse and crime.
The Panther program was
of every aspect of its politics and
economy, the BPP set up liberation schools, teaching
everything from basic literacy to black history. “We
recognise that education is only relevant when it teaches
     the art of survival.”

The Black Panthers committed to a violent image and to actual violence from
their inception.

For example, one author writing in 1976, observed that the group's
"paramilitarism” was clearly visible from the start, as Black Panthers strutted
around in their black jackets, black berets, and tight-fitting black pants, their
pockets bulging with side arms, their clenched fists high above their defiant
heads
