FUNCTIONAL
COMBINED
29 How To Write A Good Curriculum Vitae?
 Better plan your content
 A CV is never be a thesis
 Focus on highlights said by August Cohen an award winning
resume writer
 It’s imperative to perfect the document that sells and summarises
your professional qualifications
Reference: JADA A. GRAVES
Use STAR Formatting Guide
30 Stick To One Page
 Young graduates should adhere to one page
 New studies shows that even 3-4 years experienced graduates
can’t exceed their CV more than one page
 Older students have leeway to fill two pages
 Different skills should be highlighted for different career paths you
targeting
 Weave keywords from a particular job’s description
31 Ditch The Objective/Make Your Statement
 Don’t mention I have these and these skills in objective section
 The most valuable part of the resume is the top and left-hand side
 Go with something that’s going to “wow” the employer
32 Place Your Education Background
Where It Best Serves You
 If you are a fresher place your college name in CV
 If you graduated from a well reputed college/university place that I
a most appropriate place
 Once you have a relevant work experience which suits to your
targeted job place that above the education qualification
33 Don’t Improvise
 Try to make impression to the hiring manager but don’t be over
smart
 Use small techniques like info graphic CV, Cover letter, etc.
 Send an email to hiring manager by thanking him
 Send LinkedIn URL along with your mail
 Keep the professionalism in emailing
 Focus on the employer's needs, not yours
34 Don’t Embellish
 Not being truthful is a cardinal sin for any job seeker; Don’t lie
 If scholastic achievements aren’t noteworthy or/if work
accomplishments are few focus more on volunteer work and side
projects
 Tailor each CV to the job role you are applying to
35 Never Mention
 Race
 Political affiliations
 Religion
 Salary requirements
 Marital status
 Reasons for leaving a past job
36 Formatting Your Resume 1/2
 Format your text
 Set up the page
 Create your heading
 Decide on a layout
 Call your reference people and make sure they will give you a
good recommendation
 Use a word format
37
 Use the same words as the job description (To clear ATS checking)
 Spellchecker is your ally
 Do not use the header and footer for important info
 Do your Research
 Avoid Images
Formatting Your Resume 2/2
38 Info-Graphic CV
 Info-graphic CVs represents your CV in a colorful, graphical format,
like a brochure or a marketing presentation
 The purpose of an info graphic is to consolidate a large amount of
information and making it easy and interesting to digest
 The ATS will not be able to decipher a graphic resume
 Most of the info graphic CV making websites are depending on the
LinkedIn that does not really illustrate any specific skills you have!
39
40
41 Info Graphic CV Making Websites
 Visualize.ME
 ResumeUP
 Re.Vu
 Kinzaa beta
 Visual CV
 JobSpice
 Ceevee
 ConnectCV
42 Cover Letter
 Expertise says cover letter is important
 Not sending a cover letter is a sign of laziness
 It is an opportunity to distinguish yourself
43 How to Write a Cover Letter?
Do your research first
 “Do some research beyond reading the job description”
 Find out what challenges the company is facing and how your role
would help address those
 Knowing the company better also helps you decide on the right
tone to use in your cover letter
44 Open Strong
 “Start with the punch line — why this job is exciting to you and why
you’re right for it”
 If you have a personal connection with the company or someone
who works there, also mention it in the first sentence or two.
 Address your letter to someone directly. “With social media, there’s
no excuse to not be able to find the name of a hiring manager”
45 Emphasize Your Personal Value
 Drawing on the research you did earlier, show that you know what
the company does and some of the challenges it faces.
 These don’t need to be specific but you might mention a trend
that’s affected the industry.
 perhaps explain how you solved a similar problem in the past or
share a relevant accomplishment.
46 Convey Enthusiasm
 Make it clear why you want the position
 “Enthusiasm conveys personality”
 Authenticity is crucial. Be professional and mature
 “Use only the kind of language that the hiring manager would use
with one of his customers”
47 Keep It Short
 It should be brief enough that someone can read it at a
glance.
 You do have to cover a lot of ground—but you should do it
succinctly.
48 When You Can’t Submit A Cover Letter
 Many companies now use online application systems that don’t
allow for a cover letter
 You may be able to figure out how to include one in the same
document as your CV but that’s not a guarantee.
 You may try to find someone who you can send a brief follow-up
email highlighting a few key points about your application
49 How To Write A Paper Cover Letter?
Add a letterhead at the top of the letter
 Use professional and 14- or 16 font size is appropriate for name
 Font size of your address and other contact information should
be lesser than name size
50 Write The Recipient’s Name, Address
And Date
 Better to use 11 or 12 font size with a professional font set your
moderate to, and use single spacing. Be sure your font is black
51 Address The Recipient
 Be sure to refer to the recipient by his or her proper title (Mrs., Mr.,
Dr., etc.). If you’re not sure who the recipient is, write, “To Whom It
May Concern:” or “Dear Sir or Madam”
52 State Your Purpose In The 1st Paragraph
 Tell the employer why you are writing to them in two or three
sentences. State the position for which you are applying (or the one
you would like to have should it become available)
53 Outline Your Qualifications In The
Middle Paragraph(s)
 Make sure to match them to the requirements of the position. To do
this, use what you have researched about the employer's
background and history
54 Include A Positive Statement Or
Question In The Final Paragraph
 Make this closing paragraph between two to four sentences. Direct
the employer to your enclosed resume and make sure you specify
that you're available for an interview
55 Write An Appropriate Closing
 It’s a good idea to thank the reader for his or her time. After that,
write “Sincerely,” “Respectfully,” or “Regards,” leave several spaces,
and print your name.
56 Make a notation of the enclosures
 If you enclose something, such as a resume, with a letter, you should
indicate that the letter contains enclosures by making the notation
“Enclosure” or “Enclosures” at the bottom of the letter
57
“Sending out 100 CV is a waste of time. Find the
few companies you want to work for and put
some heart and soul into it”
59
 Be visible in social medias and internet
 Show the people that you are still active and engaged
 Take the bargaining power from employer
 If you are working with a consulting company then you have to be
up to date always 
