2. Grace’s Home
• Grace is from Lusaka, Zambia,
located in Southern Africa, a town
with a population of 1.4 million,
and is one of the fastest developing
towns in the area. It’s community
is very diverse, and it is rapidly
becoming a rallying point for
growth in Zambia.
3. Grace’s Life
• Grace is a 49 year old married
mother of six. Her husband is a
college professor and two of her
children are in college, and the
youngest two are in secondary
school and remain under her and
her husband’s care.
• Grace has been a hard worker,
devoted mother and wife and is
known to be forgiving, loving, and
an excellent listener. Bolstered by
her spirit and enthusiasm for hard
work Grace opened her market
three years ago, after running a
market stall for many years.
4. Grace’s Market
• Grace’s market does fairly well, but
Grace would like to further serve the
needs of her community and expand
her product list to include cookware
for locals to purchase, and also fuel for
some of that cookware in the form of
biomass pellets.
• The biomass, or fuel pellets, are high
efficiency, relatively low cost for now,
and have a lower impact on the
environment in terms of greenhouse
gas emissions. They are also fairly
widely available in Europe and are
increasing in popularity as a heating
source, with the UK government
giving subsidies to those that use the
pellets and purchase them from
approved sources.
5. Grace’s Goals
• Grace wants to expand her market
and bring new products to her city
in order to increase her competitive
edge and viability as a small,
independently owned market in a
rapid growth economic
environment.
• Grace would like to see her
business thrive, not only for her
community, but for her children as
well, whom she hopes will take over
the business so that one day she
can retire to her own farm,
continuing to work for and supply
her city.
