This document proposes a documentary film titled "Fashion Through the Lens" that would follow the lives of influential fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood, and models who promote their brands, examining the hard work of fitting into high fashion and if it is worth it. It provides potential casting choices for models like Cara Delevingne and designers like Chanel. The proposed director is Tom Ford, known for the successful film "A Single Man". A funding letter compares it to the profitable film "Coco Before Chanel" and argues Tom Ford's direction could similarly lead to box office success.
1. IDEA:
I’d write a film documentary following the lives of models and the designers who influence the world
of fashion and the people around them. I would look into the lives of designers such as Karl Lagerfeld
and Vivienne Westwood and how these styles transition onto the high street to places such as
topshop/topshop unique. I would also follow the models in the industry that promote such clothing
and the hard work they go through to fit into such high end brands and whether it’s really worth it
all. The title of this film is “fashion through the lens”
Casting choice:
As it’s a documentary there aren’t any characters, so this is just my choice of people that I find
influentially current enough in the fashion world to be involved in the film to play themselves.
Models:
cara delevingne
Charlotte free
Gemma Ward
Lily Cole
Jean Shrimpton ( looking at interviews from the past)
Twiggy
Crystal Renn
Designers:
Rick Owens
Vivienne Westwood
Chanel (Karl Lagerfeld + Coco Chanel )
Charlotte Olympia
Yves saint Laurent
Alexander McQueen

Funding Letter:
The film that I am proposing to you as an investment is a documentary following and
surrounding the lives of the people within the fashion industry and the industry and it’s
influences as a whole. The possible audience’s for this film vary but I’d say it would be for a
fashion enthusiast aged between the ages of 16 to mid thirties. A film I’d compare this to, I’d
say is along the likes of ‘coco before chanel’ as even though its more biographical film,it still
links within the fashion industry.
Coco before Chanel profit turn over:
Budget $23 million
Box office $50,812,855[1]
3. As you can see the film that is in comparison to the one that I am proposing to you was a
success at box office making double its budget in box office. If you were to fund my film, I
find that the director most suitable for this production would be Designer turned Director
Tom Ford. In 2009, Ford made his film directorial debut with A Single Man, which was based on the
novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. The film stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore,
Nicholas Hoult and Matthew Goode. His Film was a massive success upon which I hope such success
follows with this production too.
