We’re tired of paying [pick your legacy portal/ECM vendor] for upgrades and add-ons. We spent millions of dollars on a home-grown solution and we still didn’t get what we wanted. Every time we want to make a change it costs a fortune.
Our current intranet looks only slightly better than Craigslist. Our employees are used to consumer tools like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter and want similar experiences inside the firewall. It’s easier to find something on Google than it is for me to find a critical document at my company.

We acquire a lot of companies—our intranet has to adapt to the new structure quickly. We have a large sales force. New sales programs often require significant changes in how we communicate to our distributed team. When I want to add a new feature I’m told it isn’t supported. Changes that seem simple require development and down-time.
