1. Medium Shot
This is a picture of three students having a conversation and smiling. I have chosen
this medium shot as the purpose of the magazine is to promote the school and its
students. This shows students in smart clothing suggesting it to be a business
working atmosphere with a positive attitude, showing a good atmosphere and
promoting the school as happy and positive. Originally the picture is a medium-
long shot but as I was aiming for a medium shot I would have to crop it to focus on
the facial expressions and positive energy. The mise-en scene shows many objects
and the background for example, the student on the right is holding a mobile
phone, this could mean that the school supports technology for the students work.
Also the background is very natural and shows the environment to have greenery.
2. Long Shot
This is an image of the Lerner building. I have chosen this long shot as it shows the new
building suggesting the school is new and improved. It shows the sixth-form building and
attracts new students as it advertises the new building and gives the impression that it is
a modern school. It is an image of a building in the school which makes readers want to
see more of the school. What went well was definitely the lighting as it was very bright
and prevented the picture from looking dark/dull. The mis-en scene shows open space
and paths towards the entrance of the building, just before the entrance there are table
tennis tables, suggesting the school is active and supports students’ hobbies.
3. Medium-Close up
I have chosen this picture of a student as it
shows again, students with a positive attitude,
promoting the school again. However, it is a
medium shot and I was planning to have a
medium-close up to focus on just the student
and not her surroundings, to achieve this I will
have to crop the original picture so that the
focus is on the student. I have decided to crop
as much of the background out as possible as
I would like the student to be at the focal
point and nothing else distracts the eye from
her.
