The document discusses different types of pollution including air, water, land, and noise pollution. It provides definitions and causes for each type of pollution as well as their effects. Some key points discussed include how air pollution is caused by industries, automobiles, and domestic fuels and can impact human health, animals, and plants. Water pollution occurs when pollutants from sources like marine dumping, industrial waste, and sewage contaminate water bodies. Noise pollution disrupts human and animal life and is caused by traffic, construction, and industries. The document also provides suggestions for controlling different types of pollution.

2. ๏จ Environment:
๏ค The term environment refers to all the components of
the earth such as land, water and air, all living and non-living
organisms and interactions among them.
๏จ Ecosystem:
๏ค An ecosystem is all the living and nonliving things in a
certain area. All the plants and animals, even the
microorganisms that live in the soil, are living parts of an
ecosystem. Air, water, and rocks are nonliving parts of
an ecosystem.
๏ค Ecosystems are smaller parts of all the living
environments on Earth. Earthโs entire living environment
is called the biosphere.
3. ๏จ Pollution:
๏ค Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a
natural environment that causes instability, disorder,
harm or discomfort to the ecosystem .Pollution can
take the form of chemical substances or energy such
as noise, heat or light.
๏จ Types of Pollution:
๏ค Air pollution
๏ค Water pollution
๏ค Land pollution
๏ค Noise pollution
4. Air Pollution
๏จ Definition:
๏ค Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that
cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or damages the natural
environment into the atmosphere.
๏จ Air Pollution Causes by:
๏ค Industries.
๏ค Automobiles and Domestic fuels
๏ค Fire
๏ค High Proportion of undesirable gases likeโฆ
๏ฎ sulphur dioxide
๏ฎ carbon monoxide
๏จ Air Pollution Effects:
๏ค Human health
๏ค Animals
๏ค Plants
๏ค The atmosphere as a whole
๏ค Acid rain
5. Air pollution
๏จ How to control air pollution:
๏ค Maintaining a healthy distance between the industrial and
residential areas.
๏ค The chimneys should be constructed tall in size so that the
emissions must be released higher up in the environment
๏ค The sulphur must be removed after burning.
๏ค The gasoline must have anti knocking agents
๏ค The mining area should be planted with trees.
๏ค The coal fuel should be replaced with gas fuel to control the air
pollution.
๏ค The automobiles must be designed with emission control system.
๏ค The wastes must be removed and recycled in the industrial
plants and refineries.
๏ค Plants like pine and ribs need to be planted to metabolize the
nitrogen oxides and other pollutants.
6. Water pollution
๏จ Water Pollution:
๏ค Definition Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies e.g. lakes,
rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater. Water pollution occurs when
pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without
adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds
๏จ Water Pollution Causes byโฆ
๏ค Marine Dumping
๏ค Industrial Waste
๏ค Sewage
๏ค mainly from households
๏ค Nuclear waste
๏ค Oil pollution
๏ค Underground storage leaks
๏จ Water Pollution Effects:
๏ค Diseases like Cholera, Malaria,โฆ
๏ค Typhoid (spread during the rainy season ), Aquatic life gets destroyed.
7. Water pollution
๏จ Preventing Water Pollution:
๏ค Conserve water by turning off the tap.
๏ค Donโt throw paints and oils in water channels.
๏ค Use environment friendly household products, such as washing powder,
household cleaning agents etc.
๏ค Take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilizers.
๏ค Donโt throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans.
๏ค Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make
sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin.
๏ค Suspended, solid particles and inorganic material can be removed by the
use of filters.
๏ค Use of biological filters and processes can naturally degrade the organic
waste material.
๏ค After above two steps chemical additives are supplied to get rid of any left-over
impurities.
8. Noise Pollution
๏จ Definition
๏ค Noise pollution is displeasing human, animal or machine-created sound that
disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life.
๏จ Noise Pollution Causes byโฆ
๏ค Traffic Noise
๏ค Air craft Noise
๏ค Noise from construction and civil engineering works.
๏ค Noise from the Industries.
๏ค Noise from other sources.
๏จ Noise Pollution Effects:
๏ค Hearing Loss
๏ค High Blood Pressure
๏ค Stress
๏ค Sleep Disturbance
๏ค Color Blindness
9. Noise Pollution
๏จ Prevent Noise Pollution:
๏ค The government should ensure the new
machines are noise proof.
๏ค Airports should be away from residential areas.
๏ค โNo hornโ boards should be put on/near school
areas.
๏คWe should talk less and work more.
10. Land Pollution
๏จ Land Pollution:
๏ค It is the destruction of Earth's land surfaces through misuse of
land resources by human activities. Polluted land has deposits of
liquid and solid waste such as rubbish, garbage, paper, glass
and plastic objects.
๏จ Land Pollution Causes byโฆ
๏ค Accidental Spills
๏ค Industrial Accidents
๏ค Landfill and illegal dumping
๏ค Agricultural practices
๏ค Mining and other industries
๏ค Oil and fuel dumping
๏ค Buried wastes
๏ค Drainage of contaminated surface water into the soil.
11. Land Pollution
๏จ Land Pollution Effects:
๏ค Cause problems in the human respiratory system.
๏ค Cause problems on the skin.
๏ค Cause various kinds of cancers.
๏ค The toxic materials that pollute the soil can get into the human body directly
by into contact with the skin.
๏ค washed into water sources like reservoirs and rivers.
๏ค Eating fruits and vegetables that have been grown in polluted soil.
๏ค Breathing in polluted dust or particles.
๏จ Prevent Land pollution:
๏ค More and more land should be brought under farming.
๏ค Trees should be planted everywhere.
๏ค Waste matter should be disposed immediately Avoid drilling lands for
underground water.
๏ค Avoid using fertilizer and pesticides for farming.
