2. What is the Endocrine System?
Glands that maintain homeostasis in body
by secreting hormones
Two types of endocrine glands
Exocrine glands: Release hormones into
ducts that carries them out of the body
Endocrine glands: Release hormones
directly into the bloodstream
3. Importance of Homeostasis
Homeostasis is how the body maintains a
constant environment
Hormones can help regulate the body
If there is an imbalance in hormone
production there can be drastic changes
to the body
5. Polyuria
The condition of excessive urination
Associated with hyposecretion of
antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
ADH is a hormone released from the
posterior pituitary gland and promotes
water reabsorption in the kidneys
A lack of ADH will increase urine/water
output
6. Hypercalcemia
A condition of having high levels of
calcium in the blood
Associated with hypersecretion of
parathyroid hormone (PTH)
PTH is secreted from the parathyroid gland
and regulates calcium concentration in the
blood
An increase in PTH will increase the amount
of calcium in the blood
