YouTube was launched in 2005 and grew rapidly, reaching 100 million views per day by July 2006. Google purchased YouTube for $1.6 billion in October 2006. Time magazine named "You" as their 2006 Person of the Year to represent the rise of user-generated media and public self-expression on sites like YouTube. The document discusses how YouTube has enabled new forms of personal expression and social interaction through sharing videos, but has also raised legal issues around copyright infringement.
