• You should pay the going rate for the job that
people perform
• Distinction between role of a Member as an
employee and as an owner of the business

Decision making can be quick
• Democracy doesn’t have to mean that
everyone is involved in every decision
• Responsibilities and powers can be delegated,
BUT will always be held accountable!

Different Members may be in it for
different reasons
• Ideology is a powerful driver…
• Different people may have different reasons
or expectations for wanting to be part of a co-
operative business…

• In some instances being a co-op gives you a
license to print money (or as good as…)
• Exclusive funding initiatives
• Dedicated support advisors and programmes
