2. INTRODUCTION
Physiotherapy is an Allied health care profession. It is a non surgical
treatment approach characterized by treatment of various diseases and
disorders by means of Physical Medicine modalities. Physiotherapists can
diagnose physical dysfunction, relieve pain, correct postural disorders,
improve muscle power, endurance and flexibility, prevent stiffness of
joints and restore independence for disabled. Common ailments like back
pain, neck pain, arthritis, spondylosis, slipped disc, post fracture joint
stiffness, deformities, sports injuries, paralysis etc are treated by
Physiotherapists.
HISTORY OF PHYSIOTHERAPY AT KIPT
In 1994, Bachelor of Physiotherapy course was started at K.L.E. Society’s,
J.N.Medical College, Belgaum. Over a period of time, the department of
Physiotherapy at JNMC has evolved as an autonomous KLE Society’s
Institute of Physiotherapy, Belgaum, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University
of Health Sciences, Bangalore.

3. COURSES & ADMISSION

ELGIBILITY – BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy)
Candidates who have passed Pre-University Examination of Karnataka Pre-
University Board with English and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as
optional subjects or equivalent examination and with 45 percent marks in
aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In case of candidates
belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes the minimum percentage of
marks shall be 40 percent in qualifying subjects.
A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should
have completed 17 years of age, as on 31st December of the year of
admission. Every candidate before admission of the course shall furnish to
Principal of the Institution a certificate of Medical Fitness from an
authorized Government Medical Officer to the effect, where that the
candidate is physically fit to undergo the Physiotherapy course.
ELGIBILITY – MPT (Master of Physiotherapy)
B.Sc. Physiotherapy or Bachelor of Physiotherapy Degree of any Indian
University or its equivalent qualification from abroad, with 50% minimum
marks.
COMMENCEMENT OF COURSES
First week of September.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
English is the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for
examinations of both BPT & MPT Courses.

4. ASSESSMENT
Student assessment is through internal, university theory and practical
and oral examinations.
WORKING HOURS
Working hours for our academic programs is 09.00AM to 05.00PM
LECTURE THEATRES
Spacious lecture theatres equipped with LCD projectors are provided for
the lecture sessions, for the all the academic courses.

K.L.E.Society’s Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre,
Belgaum is not just another hospital; it is an institution for health care.
Conceptualized, meticulously planned, painstakingly designed, this
hospital is aimed to provide ultimate standards of latest medical
practices, homely comfort, care and cure for patients. The objective of
setting high standards and meeting the aspirations and hopes of everyone

COLLEGE CAMPUS
Our KIPT Campus is a modern Gurukul with full of greenery and amazing
healthy environmental features plus a modern musical garden. Besides all
modern amenities, its location and peaceful environment leave one in
inner peace for relaxation and higher mental activity.
SOCIAL AMENITIES
The College being at the end of the city, the Management has taken special
care in meeting some of the immediate and pressing needs of the staff and
students. On the campus, we have staff quarters, guest house, post office,
a Branch of Syndicate Bank with e-banking, a Co-operative Consumer’s
Stores, a Book stall, a Laundry, a Cafeteria, a Fruit Stall, a Hair-Dressing
Saloon. A Communication center having facilities for Courier Service
(National & International) and Computerized Telephone for Local / STD /
ISD calls are also provided. The College also maintains four (4) buses for
the transport of students. Student’s associations conduct film shows and
cultural events. The KLES Hospital & MRC is attached to the campus
helping them to have easy health and academic accessibility.

7. We have a magnificent and well-planned Auditorium, which has 1200
seating capacity and is equipped with modern facilities with acoustic
treatment.
PLAY GROUND & STADIUM
About 12 acres of land on the main road side has been set apart for
playground and other sports activities. With the help of District
Committee, a stadium of Olympic standard is constructed on our college
ground, having provision for team games such as Hockey, Foot-ball
Cricket, Basket-Ball, etc. and a track area catering for 8 tracks with 100
meters straight. There is also a separate newly constructed modern indoor
games complex having Badminton court of international specification and
facilities for other indoor games.

8. LIBRARY
This unique Library is housed in a spacious and well planned building. The
total plinth area being 28,768 sq.ft. It has four Reading Rooms and can
easily accommodate 250 students and 50 staff members at a time. It is
furnished with up to date furniture and modern lighting arrangements.
The Library has, at present, about 24,722 books. As many as 239 journals
& periodicals on different disciplines of medicine are subscribed. In
addition, there are more than 1000 books exclusively on Physiotherapy.
The Library is kept open on all working days from 09-00 A.M. to 10-00 P.M.
and on Sundays and other Holidays from 10-00 A.M. to 1-00 P.M. We follow
the open access system, thus providing an incentive to students to look
into the books. A separate Committee is supervising the working of the
library. The library also provides facilities in Audio-video learning system.
It has separate reading facility for students working from morning 9-00
a.m. to 12-00 midnight.

9. DIGITAL LIBRARY
In 2001, fitting with the new millennium, facilities of E-Mail, Internet,
retrieval of journals and text books and conferencing with other research
and academic institutions world-wide have been added with 30 computer
sets and capacity of 60 is targeted in near future.
Facilities offered by ‘Digital Library’: Communication through Email, Chat,
Voice Message, Voice mail, Browsing of World Web Online Journals, which
the College has subscribed, reference Books online, Journal Search,
Practice Guidelines, Patients Education, Drug information etc.

We provide adequate and comfortable hostel accommodation separately
for men & women at nine (9) hostels that can accommodate all of our
students.
