2. Aren’t all Libraries the Same? K-12 School Library Open during school day Collections are smaller than public/academic library offerings and content varies considerably between school districts. Subscribe to popular magazines like Time and Newsweek (usually can’t be checked out of library). Books arranged by Dewey Decimal call numbers. One library per building or school district. One help desk in library. Academic (College) Libraries Stay open later (often until 10:00pm or midnight) and open earlier (7:30 or 8:00am). May even be open 24 hours during exam time. Collections support the courses that are offered on campus and the research needs of students and faculty. Subscribe to popular magazinesand scholarly journals (in specialized fields such as Business or Education). May or may not be able to check out of library. Books usually arranged by Library of Congress call numbers, but may use Dewey Decimal. May have one library or multiple (specialized) libraries on campus. B348 is the “code” for Baumgardner. HQ1421 .B38 2000 HQ means the book is about family, marriage, women, and/or sexuality. 1421 means it is focused on women and feminism. B38 is the “code” for Baumgardner.
