Development has both positive and negative impacts on the environment. While development improves standards of living and economic growth, it can damage the environment through pollution, loss of habitats, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable development aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs by balancing environmental protection with economic development.
