best capture the core message
you wish to convey.
• These keywords can be spread
throughout your profile to help
you to be found.
• They can be a mix of key skills or
words that people in your target
audience are likely to search for,
e.g. Yammer, LinkedIn, Twitter,
etc
8. To CV or not to CV
• LinkedIn is an online CV/résumé, and
in a similar way it can be tweaked to
appeal to difference audiences.
• It is a marketing document designed
to “sell” your skills, abilities,
qualifications and experience.
• Ask: How can my skills help the group
I’m targeting?
• It should be edited to help you move
in the direction you would like to go.
• Or it can be edited to attract new
clients.
12. Settings: Turn off Activity broadcasts
If you are making many changes to
your profile it can be a good idea to
turn off the Activity broadcasts until
you are sure you are happy with the
content.
13. Settings: Being visible
Make yourself visible to
Everyone so that your profile
can be more easily searched
and shared.
Also improves SEO (Search
Engine Optimization)
15. Control what people see
You can choose which
parts of your profile will
be displayed.
16. Settings: Add a Twitter account
Add your Twitter account so posts are
automatically displayed on your
LinkedIn profile.
With less traffic they can often get
more reaction than in Twitter.
18. Quality photo
Have a professional photo take or
alternatively get a photography
enthusiast friend with a semi-
professional camera.
A good photo will give you more
confidence and inspire you to
improve the rest of your profile.
21. Active verbs
Use verbs that describe what you did and
achieved, e.g.:
accomplished, budgeted, chaired, design,
edited, founded, guided, handled, impleme
nted, managed, unified, etc.
22. Be concrete
Try to give concrete examples
whenever possible stating what you
achieved, e.g. I gave over 15
collaboration training workshops.
The PROJECTS section of the profile
is particularly good for this.
23. Listing jobs
Make sure you put something
concrete in the description of every
job listed.
28. Basic connecting
LinkedIn recommends you only invite people you know well and who know you.
50 connections should be the minimum.
500+ is the highest that will show in public.

LinkedIn connections filter out the
best potential new connections.

about what your friends are sharing
and reading to make article
recommendations

interested in.
It can be a good way to find people who’s
opinions you respect.
