ZEWIPRO project aims at introducing an innovative technology on the wine production’s market.
The technology could be very useful to solve problems the wineries face in relation to the handling and
the disposal of developed gaseous pollutants during the wine fermentation process.
The innovative solution allows the recovery of carbon dioxide gas and the wastewaters degradation.
Four partners from Italy, Spain and The Netherlands work to enhance the first full deployment of the
technology. ENCO (Italy) leads the project and is involved in market analysis and dissemination acti-
vities. ALGAELINK (The Netherlands) works on the technology implementation presented with the
ZEWIPRO project. BODEGAS SOLARVIEJO (Spain) and FAZI BATTAGLIA (Italy) provide the necessary
expertise in relation to the wine making process.

ZEWIPROTECHNOLOGY
The system will work thanks to a photo bioreactor, a patented automated cleaning system, a pump,
hardware and software controls. CO2 produced into the cellars will flow throughout a pump into the
photo bioreactor.The photo bioreactor itself promotes microalgae growth by controlling environ-
mental parameters.The system is also capable of recovering up to 95% of the water used.
Net decrease of the greenhouse gas emissions.
Net decrease of ethylic alcohol otherwise released onto the atmosphere.
Drastic reduction of odours emitted by the cellar during the fermentation period.
Net reduction of nitrogen and phosphor contained in the waste-waters.
