Rube Goldberg was an American cartoonist born in 1883 in San Francisco. He is most famous for inventing Rube Goldberg machines, which are deliberately complex machines designed to perform simple tasks in an indirect and convoluted manner. Goldberg had a long career as a cartoonist, creating comic strips and illustrations. He married Irma Seeman in 1904 and they had two sons. Goldberg died in 1970 at age 87, but his family has kept his legacy and name alive through their company Rube Goldberg Incorporated.

Rube Goldberg was born in San Francisco, California, on July 4, 1883 by Jewish parents Max and
Hannah. Rube was the third of seven children three of who died as children (older brother
Garrett, younger brother Walter and younger sister Lillian also survived).
Ruben stated tracing illustrations when he was four years old, and took professional drawing
lessons when he was eleven.
On October 17,1964 Rube married Irma Seeman they lived at 98 Central Park West New York
where they had two sons Gorge and Thomas.During World War Two Goldberg's suns changed
there surname, at Goldberg's insistence, because of the amount of hatred towards him stemming
from the political nature of his cartoons. Thomas chose the surname of George for his brother,
and George, wanting to keep a sense of family cohesiveness, did the same.
Thomas and George's children now run a company called RGI (Rube Goldberg Incorporated) to
maintain the Goldberg name. John George (Thomas's son) is assisted by his cousin Jennifer
George (George's daughter) and John's son Joshua George to keep the family name alive.
Rube Goldberg died in 1970 at the age of 87, while his widow, Irma, died on April 26, 1990 at the
age of 95
