At PloneConf 2019 in Ferrara I had a feeling of realization, That I had a misconception of the current state of Plone and development. In talks at the conference I also have seen that others have the same problem, as we speak of very different things. The overall question that raised is “What is Plone for you?” and what is the future of Plone. For me Plone is a vision, to empower users. Volto caries this vision. Therefore I can only recommend to endorse Volto as the future of Plone.

We will cover 3 main topics: 1. Why do we make prototypes? 2. The prototyping process 3. Tools available for making prototypes Students will gain an understading of how the different tools available can be combined to produce meaningful results to aid with iterative development. Starting at the lo-fi end with pen and paper (it's important!), the class will move on to lean, web based tools (popapp.in, moqups.com and appgyver.com). The fundamentals covered in this presentation also prove useful for dealing with developers and agile teams.

The most complicated aspect of large software projects is not the implementation, it is the real world domain that the software serves. Domain Driven Design is a vision and approach for dealing with highly complex domains that is based on making the domain itself the main focus of the project, and maintaining a software model that reflects a deep understanding of the domain. The vision was brought to the world by Eric Evans in his book "Domain Driven Design". Eric's work was based on 20 years of widely accepted best practices in the object community, as well as Eric's own insights. "Mobile first," is a concept that serves us well as a design tool, putting constraints on our messaging, layout, etc. But to use "mobile first" as a complete mobile strategy can lead to some dangerous lines of thought. There's a bigger picture that needs to be seen, and it's what we've always done when developing experiences for the web. We need to put the "Experience First." Then we can think about "mobile", "desktop", "lean-back", and whatever other technologies are released in the next several years. It's not about devices, it's about users and experiences. In reality there is not much new about it - all we are doing is treating the web as a distribution and sharing platform and browsers as the software to run our applications on. In this talk Christian Heilmann of Mozilla shows how in the near future application installation and in-app payments can happen on the most distributed market there is - the internet and through your browser. You will see how the technologies we build web sites in got an upgrade to allow us to build light-weight and focused applications that allow our end users to reach their goals faster and in a more re-usable fashion than with traditional ecommerce. Browsers and hardware are becoming more powerful each day, it is time to use that power in a sensible manner.

While student use of tablets and mobile phones continues to experience tremendous growth, touchscreens are destined for even broader use with the release of such products as Windows 8 and the Google Chomebook Pixel. In this session user experience consultant Paul Hibbitts shares some of his core design techniques and principles to create touch-friendly websites. Techniques such as user stories and responsive design sketching will be explored, along with touchscreen interaction design principles. In addition to discussion, participants will undertake several workshop activities. While not required, participants are encouraged to bring a touch-enabled device along with a notebook to the session.
