1. Cameron Highlands is Malaysia's premier hill resort. Located in the state of Pahang, on the Main Range of
Peninsular Malaysia, at 1524m above sea level, it is the largest of the Malaysian hill resorts. Much of its appeal lies in
the neat sprawling tea plantations which date back to 1929, as well as terraced flower gardens, strawberry farms,
orchards and vegetable gardens. Being a popular hill resort, Cameron Highlands is well-developed with visitor

Temperature here hovers between 16 to 26o C. It used to be very cold but nowadays you can make do with just a

Formerly known as "Kedah Peak", this forest-clad Gunung Jerai is a massive
limestone outcrop that rises 1200m above sea level. As the highest peak in the
state, it adds a touch of variety to the scenic flat plains seen throughout the area.
There are a number of legends and historical facts attached to this mountain.
During the Hindu-Buddhist era, it was a sacred mountain. Ruins of Hindu and
Buddhist temples were discovered at the foot of the hills. Varied tales of a "Raja
Bersiong" (the King with Fangs) also abound. He had once held power over an
ancient kingdom near the mountains.
2,000 meters above sea level, Genting Highlands, a magnificent city on the hilltop,
is but a mere 50km from Kuala Lumpur. It offers a cool respite from the hustle and
bustle of the city capital. Crisp invigorating mountain air complemented by majestic
scenery spreads out before your eyes. Lush green tropical rainforest shrouded in a
veil of perpetual mist makes it hard to believe that you are just minutes away from
the sweltering equatorial heat and the ever dusty city. Here, consistent
temperatures between 16 and 23 degrees provide natural air condition
Genting Highlands Resort offers the bountiful harvest of nature together with a
staggering potpourri of international standard facilities. Besides the cool air and
scenic surroundings, this hilltop city also houses the country's one and only casino.
However, one should not underestimate its value as this casino has been featured
in many films produced by Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even Hollywood. Besides the
casino, this hilltop resort also has a theme park of its own and an entertainment
center.
2. The Kinabalu region is on the west coast of Sabah, "The Land Below the Wind".
Herein lies Southeast Asia's highest peak, the mystical Mount Kinabalu, which rises
a grand 4,101 meters above sea level. Kinabalu holds the promises of many
exhilarating moments for its visitors. Tour Kota Kinabalu, the bustling capital city of
Sabah, or retreat to Kinabalu Park, a paradise for naturalists, botanists, bird
watchers, mountaineers, or just about anyone who wants to be close to nature. It
has a population of about 300,000 and is a relatively new town. The original town
was destroyed during World War II. This is a sprawling, relaxed town that affords a
splendid view of the sunset over offshore islands. KK has mushroomed in size
within the last decade and now has one of the most striking buildings in the
country. The largest ethnic group is the Kadazans/ Dusuns who make up about
one-third of Sabah's population. They are prosperous agricultural people and are
the main producers of rice in the state though many have now gone into different
professions. Their system of beliefs revolves around their rice planting and
harvesting with female priestess called "Bobohizan" presiding over the rituals. The
many subgroups of the Kadazan/Dusun include the Rungus, Lotud, Tambanuo,
Kimarangan., Sanayou, Minokok, and Tenggera.
Located approximately 9km from Taiping, Bukit Larut (Malaysia's oldest and
smallest hill resort) stands at 1,035m above sea level. Accessible only by
government-owned four-wheel-drive vehicles, the road up twists and turns through
tropical virgin jungle with the fresh green fragrance and cool air greeting you as
you ascend. At the summit, one is greeted by a spectacular view of the west coast
of Peninsular Malaysia. The hill abounds with groves of evergreens and vibrantly
colored flora and fauna. Roses, dahlias, daisies, pansies, petunias, lupins, and
marigolds abound in profusion. The cool climate also favors golden sunflowers with
reputedly the largest variety in the country.
