2. WHY MAKE TEACHER VIDEOS?
• 90% of all communication is non verbal.
• Research shows that if we have a teacher or
representation of the teacher such as a video,
picture or even an avatar giving us feedback or
directions, we are more engaged and thus
retain more learning.
• The teacher student relationship is critical to
the motivation and engagement of the student.
• The visual representation builds those
relationships.
• Sometimes written feedback can seem
impersonal and dry.
3. WHY MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEOS?
Increase engagement
Increase prior knowledge or remediate
opportunities
Ensure student understanding
Communicate with students
Connect with parents
Individualize for student’s special needs.
4. Increase engagement
When you are starting a new unit, it is a great idea
to get the students engaged by modeling for
them your excitement in the topic!
Please see the 1st video posted blow this
presentation.
5. INCREASE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
OPPORTUNITIES
Before you start a unit, it is a good idea to model
for the students the kinds of skills you would like
them to be able to do when they are done with
the unit.
Please see the 2nd video posted blow this
presentation.
6. Ensure student understanding
When reviewing a students paper or work, you can
make a video of your feedback to that student
with questions that may have come up that you
would like them to address.
Please see the 3rd video posted blow this
presentation.
7. Communicate with students
Teacher videos embedded in an email or
posted on your class website are a great
way to
• post announcements,
• give information about an upcoming
fieldtrip, or
• a heads up about the upcoming weeks
activities and expectations, or
• perhaps just to congratulate the class on a
job well done!
8. Connect with parents
You can also embed video into an email to
your parents to accomplish the same
ends, announcements of upcoming
events, or to emphasize a job well done.
9. Individualize for Student’s Special Needs
One of the most effective uses of teacher made
videos is to help a student with special needs
individualize for their disability.
Please see the 4th video posted blow this
presentation.
