When launched, the Suitability Mapper will take you first to its home page, with the user interface illustrated in Figure 1.1 below:

3 5 Suitability Results tab at the bottom of your screen provides a summary display of
1 2 4 your suitability analysis results. It organizes your analysis in three ways:
• Provinces: displays the amount of potentially suitable and not suitable land by
Indonesian province.
• Districts: displays the amount of potentially suitable and not suitable land by
Indonesian districts (kabupaten.)
• My Sites: displays the amount of potentially suitable and not suitable land in
the areas that you drew or uploaded.
To choose between these three display options, you can click number 3 in image
1.3 and select your preferred way to view the results.
To display analysis results by alphabetical order, click the “Province” column
(number 1 in figure 1.3.)
To display the results by area (both ascending and descending), click either the
Potential or Not Suitable title (numbers 2 and 3 in figure 1.3.)
To explore the summary results, click Export (number 5 in figure 1.3.)
All units in the Summary Results is in hectares (ha). For more information on the
data, definitions and methods used, refer to the Technical Document in our website.

Drawing Tools enables you to draw pictures or give labels directly on
the map. These functions are not be confused with the Draw function in
the Select Sites tab, which enables you to select your areas of interest to
be analyzed.

Drawing Tools can be accessed by clicking the Draw button on the
Figure 1.4 Map Tools. (See figure 1.1.)
1. Point: allows you to draw dots on the map to highlight areas of interest. Click on the point button and then move the cursor to the place on the map
where you want to place a dot. Click the mouse once and a dot will appear.
2. Line: allows you to draw a straight line.
3. Free line: allows you to draw a line in any shape and direction.
4. Rectangle: allows you to create a rectangle or square of any size on the map.
5. Polygon: allows you to create a shape with multiple sides. Click and pull the line as many times as needed, and then double click to finish the object.
6. Move: allows you to move any drawn object by clicking and dragging the object.
7. Eraser: allows you to delete individual objects that you have drawn on the map.
8. Clear all: allows you to delete all objects that you have drawn on the map at once.
9. Shape color: allows you to change the color of the shape you drew.
10. Transparency handler: allows you to change the transparency settings of the shape you drew.
11. Label color: allows you to change the color of the labels you drew.
12. Outline only: allows you to draw shapes that only displays its outline.

ç Displays base map without displaying the suitability
map layer
Click the checkbox to the left of the Suitability Map to display or hide the
Suitability Map.
Click Reset Default to return the tool to the default settings.
Adjust the transparency of the Suitability Map by sliding this control
button.
The suitability map layer has two colors. Purple represents areas that are
potentially suitable according to the criteria selected by the user. Yellow
represents areas that are not suitable according to the same criteria.
Look at the legend to see which colors corresponds to which land suitability.

Enables you to view additional maps of
Kalimantan. To view your Suitability Map
overlaid with any of the maps in More Maps,
check both the More Maps box and the
Suitability Map box, and adjust the transparency
slide bar.
For more information on the data that we use,
see our Technical Document, available at our
website.
Check More Maps
box to activate more
maps to display.
Click any map to display it in the
main window.
Slide the transparency slider to set the
opaqueness of the Suitability Map layer.

2. EXPLORING THE SUITABILITY MAPPER // DISPLAY OTHER INFORMATION
Click on the boxes available to display more infromation on
the maps. Available data:
• Political Boundaries: Select to display the districts and
provinces of Kalimantan.
• Roads: Select to show detailed roads, including logging
roads.
• Rivers: Select to show rivers.
• Settlements: Select to show the main cities of
Kalimantan.
• Case Studies: This is under development. We are
currently seeking case studies that demonstrate how the
Suitability Mapper has been used. In the future, you will
be able to select to pinpoint case study locations,
showing examples of where the Suitability Mapper has
been used for real-world applications.
• Contribute Case Study: Select if you have a case study
you would like to share or would like more information
about working with us to conduct a case study. This link
will direct you to our Contact Us feedback form.

3. CHANGING THE SUITABILITY CRITERIA
1. Click the Set Suitability tab in the Dashboard
2. Click the Environmental Criteria tab to change the
environmental criteria of your choice or click the Crop
Criteria to change the crop criteria according to your
needs.
3. Change the inputs to the parameters of your choice.
Note: The colors in the criteria tabs corresponds to the
Suitability Map: Purple for “Potential” and Yellow for
“Not Suitable.”

1. Click the Select Sites tab on the Dashboard
2. a. Choose Circle to draw a circle shape, or Rectangle for a rectangular shape, and
then draw it in the map for the area you want to analyze. Click the cursor on the
map to start drawing and click on the cursor again after you have drawn your area

of interest.
b. Choose Polygon to draw a more precise shape. Click on the map to start drawing,
click again to determine the points of the polygon, and click twice to finish your
polygon.
3. Click on the area that you have drawn and there will be a pop-up “My area of Interest”

3. Find your concession shapefile (ZIP) and upload it.
4. Click on your uploaded area and a pop up will appear with information
on your area of interest.
