Located on the right hand corner of the screen, the Dashboard is the main portal to conduct
analysis. The Dashboard allows you to manipulate the map and choose which criteria you
would like to measure. It has two main components:
A • Explore; allows you to investigate tree cover loss and to explore additional maps.
Changes made in this tab will only affect the map displayed in the Analyzer, not the
results calculated.
• Analyze; lets you define the area that you wish to analyze. Once you define the area, the
analysis is generated automatically. It consists of ‘My Area of Interests’ and ‘More Areas
of Interests.’

To switch between the Explore and the Analyze functions, you can click the tabs on the
Dashboard (numbers 1 and 2 in Diagram 1.2.)

1. USER INTERFACE // SUMMARY RESULTS
1 2 3 4 The Summary Results box gives a quick overview of results for the selected areas of
interest. It has three parts:
• Change: shows the amount of total tree cover loss in the area of interest in the
following time periods: 2001-2005, 2006-2007, and 2008-2010.
• Forest Cover: shows the amount of recent forest cover in each area of interest in
the following categories: primary, other forest, and wetland.
• Legal: shows the amount of land in each area of interest that is classified by the
Indonesian Ministry of Forestry as Protected Areas (Conservation Forest and
Protection Forest), Production Forest (Limited Production Forest and
Production Forest), or Convertible Forest (Convertible Production Forest).
To change between the three sections above, you can click the tabs on the upper
side of the Summary Results table (numbers 1, 2, and 3 in diagram 1.3).
To export the analysis results, click the Export button (number 4 in diagram 1.3).
All units in the Summary Results is in hectares (ha). For more information on the
data, definition and methods used you can refer to the Forest Cover Analyzer
Technical document available at our website.

Drawing Tools enables you to draw pictures or give labels directly on
the map. These functions are not to be confused with the Draw function
in the Analyze tab, which enables you to select you areas of interst to be
analyzed.

Drawing Tools can be accessed by clickng the Draw function on the
Diagram 1.4 Map Tools. (See Diagram 1.1).
1. Point: allows you to draw dots on the map to highlight areas of interest. Click on the point button and then move the cursor to the place on the map
where you want to place a dot. Click the mouse once and a dot will appear.
2. Line: allows you to draw a straight line.
3. Free line: allows you to draw a line in any shape and direction.
4. Rectangle: allows you to create a rectangle or square of any size on the map.
5. Polygon: allows you to create a shape with multiple sides. Click and pull the line as many times as needed, and then double click to finish the object.
6. Move: allows you to move any drawn object by clicking and dragging the object.
7. Eraser: allows you to delete individual objects that you have drawn on the map.
8. Clear all: allows you to delete all objects that you have drawn on the map at once.
9. Shape color: allows you to change the color of the shape you drew.
10. Transparency handler: allows you to change the transparency settings of the shape you drew.
11. Label color: allows you to change the color of the labels you drew.
12. Outline only: allows you to draw shapes that only displays its outline.

Click the Tree Cover Change box to display or hide the forest cover change
layer.
Click the arrow to the right of the slider to view the forest cover change
data in animation.
Select the years to display by clicking the Annual Loss slider.
The forest cover change layer consists of a range of colors: from light yellow
to dark red which represents years in which the change occurred.
View the Legend to see which colors correspond to which years.

In this function, you can view other available maps for Kalimantan. The maps
can also be layered with the Forest Cover Change data.
You can adjust the transparency of the More Maps layer by adjusting the
transparency slider.
The following table lists the maps available in the Forest Cover Analyzer. For
more information on the data used, see our Technical Document.
MAPS DESCRIPTION
LAND COVER 2010 2010 Land cover data from SarVision (2012, 50 m resolution),
classified by type.
PEATLAND Peatlands in Kalimantan, classified by depth (Wetlands International
2004),1:250.000 scale.
ABOVEGROUND Aboveground biomass in tons per hectare. Calculated by SarVision
BIOMASS (2012, 100 m resolution)

Click on the boxed available to display more information on the
maps. Available data:
• Political Boundaries: Select to display the districts and provinces
of Kalimantan.
• Roads: Select to show detailed roads, including logging roads.
• Rivers: Select to show rivers.
• Settlements: Select to show the main cities of Kalimantan.
• Field Verification Sites: Click to view field verification sites.
• Case Studies: This is under development. We are currently
seeking case studies that demonstrate how the Forest Cover
Analyzer has been used. In the future, you will be able to select
case study locations, showing examples of where the Analyzer
has been used for real-world applications.
• Contribute Case Study: Select if you have a case study you would
like to share or would like more information about working with
us. Think link will direct you to our Contact Us feedback form.

the map to start drawing and let go once you have created your shape.
b. Click on the Polygon to draw a more precise shape. Click on the map to start
drawing, click again to determine the points of the polygon, and click twice to finish
your polygon.
3. Click on the area that you have drawn. A pop up My area of interest will appear.
4. Click Details to see the anlysis results from your drawn area of interest.
