The Future
• The long term effects of fire
  suppression were a grim reminder.

• Today’s fires are unprecedented in size
  and destruction.
• The fuels and climate outlook are not
favorable for the next 35 years.
• No agency can go it alone.
• Our challenges will continue.
• So, who will meet the challenge………

  1. Who was the founding father of resource conservancy for all agencies? GIFFORD PINCHOT His philosophy of conservation and preservation of our natural resources helped nationalize the concept that we should prevent people from destroying those resources. Fire prevention was a natural emphasis of that philosophy. He took pride in his work and set the example for all us who came behind him. His recruitment posters stated “Wanted, men that can do all, must be multi-functional and only the strong need apply, not the feeble or weak of heart. They must be able to use a shotgun, rope, mend fences, work pack strings (mules), climb and cut trees, possess carpentry skills and fight fire. All stations will be kept neat and clean, just like the military. That’s what pride in who you are and who you represent is all about
