“Use of GIS and mobile application for water resources data and knowledge management”
Implementing an effective water data and infor- mation knowledge management system is one of the pressing issues within the water sector in Kenya and Africa. Generally, this challenge gets greater due lack of systematic implementation backbone for collecting and collating monitoring data and reports, poor information infrastructure, and often vast land area make it increasingly dif- ficult to monitor changes. Practical water re- sources knowledge management is a challenging process that requires concerted and multiple ef- forts by key players throughout the water sector, and aided by appropriate suite of skills and tech- nology
Obtaining of diverse amount of data will largely benefit from methods that allow accurate and timely data. Water Cap in partnership with Swap- Bfz, WRMA, Moi University and AKVO piloted in Kajiado the use of “GIS and mobile application for water resources data and knowledge manage- ment” .
The September Dialogue will focus on the capabili- ties of mobile application and GIS to allows rapid capture, processing, analysis and visualization of da- ta, as opposed to traditional means of data collection that are often challenging; cumbersome, slow in compiling data, high error rate and inaccessibility as well as invisibility of results.
