2. What is THE MOON?
• The moon is a large rocky
object in outer space that
orbits around larger object,
like a planet. The moon orbits
around earth because it is held
by a gravitational force between
the moon and the planet. When
the moon revolves around the
earth, it takes 29.5 days at a
distance of 250,000 km.
3. First man on the moon!
• In the year 1969, Neil
Armstrong an american
astronaut became the first
man to step on the moon
with his crew of the apollo
11. Ones Armstrong
steped on the moon he
said “One small step for
man, one giant step for
mankind”.
4. The phases of the moon
• If you think the moon has its own light, that is actuaclly
wrong. The suns light reflects to the moon and shows the
different phases of the moon. The first one is called the
new moon witch does not show the moon. And the
crescent is when the moon starts to show a small part of the
moon. Then the first quarter is when half of the moon is
shown. Then the waxing gibbous. And finally the full
moon, but then the it becomes the waning gibbous and then
the last quarter. Then the crescent, and last but not least the
new moon.
5. Activity page!
• For this activity you will make
your own phases of the moon.
All you have to do is get a round
object like a ball, a smaller
round object. Get a lamp or
something similar and a pole to
hold the bigger round object,
turn on the lamp and start
moving the smaller round object
around. And see if it is a new
moon or a full moon and you
know the others.
