TLS videotape library, headphones are required in
    computer labs.
 The primary purpose of DVSS is to transmit instructional
television programs from WBGU-PBS via the BGSU
network infrastructure to most classrooms on campus.
Not all classrooms are wired or equipped with television
    receivers and set top boxes.
 Study carrels located in the reserve section of the Jerome
Library are connected to DVSS and can be used by
individuals for viewing programs from the TLS videotape

the broadcast date, the second showing may only be for
    instructional reinforcement.
 Faculty or students are not allowed to record programs at
home and bring them to school for viewing in the classroom.
Target Audience Definition

 BGSU Faculty and Staff which already
use some form of technology to aid in
the teaching and learning process are the
    target audience for DVSS.
 Faculty and Staff willing to adopt new
technology and use it in the classroom as
    a teaching aid.
Promotional Objectives

 Increase the awareness of DVSS among
faculty, staff, and student body of BGSU.
 Increase the usage of DVSS among
faculty, staff, and student body of BGSU.
 Inform faculty, staff and students the
how easy DVSS technology can be
accessed and how they can benefit from
    using it.
Promotional Strategies

 We decided an acquisitive strategy would
work best for DVSS because the target
audience (faculty and staff already using
technology) may be unaware of DVSS.
 Illustrate how DVSS is easy to use and
beneficial to faculty and students through
    demonstration workshops scheduled
    throughout each semester.
Promotional Materials
 Send informational e-mails to all faculty and staff
who use Instructional Media Services (IMS) or
Television Learning Services (TLS). The e-mail
will include a brief description of DVSS, how to
use DVSS, and the link to the TLS website if they
    have further questions.
 Mail a newsletter to college departments
explaining DVSS and the benefits of using the
service in and out of the classroom.
 Place promotional pamphlets in the IMS
    (Instructional Media Services) office.
 Include a ‘User Testimonial’ section on DVSS
    website to promote faculty use.
Promotion Action Plan Timeline

 Present – Summer ‘03: Heavily promote
to those faculty and staff who already
use some sort of technology in the
classroom. - Those who already use
technology are more likely to use DVSS.
 Fall ‘03 - Future: Eventually the target
audience will expand. Target those who
are not familiar with technology or DVSS.
Program Effectiveness Evaluation
 It is crucial to get the faculty to utilize the
technology, so they can pass the information to
    students.
 Students will most likely be introduced to DVSS by
their teachers, and will use it if instructed to do so
    for a class or project.
 Word will spread quickly among departments and
colleges that use DVSS, encouraging others to use it.
 As with most new technology, it may take some time
for faculty and students to integrate DVSS into their
    course curriculum and studies.
