4. The Internet is a wonderful tool for learning.
But, it can also be a place for predators to
reach your children, and for Cyber bullying to
take place.
5. Over 75% of Internet crimes are not reported
to the police or parents
Over 45 million children ages 10-17 use
the internet. Among them:
-One in five has been sexually solicited
-One in four has encountered unwanted
pornography
-Close to 60% of teens have received an
email or instant message from a stranger and
communicated back

7. Tips for Parents…
• Place your computer in a
common area of the house.
• Educate yourself about
computers and the internet.
• Make reasonable rules. Set time
and use limits. Enforce them.
• Educate yourself and your child
about the dangers of the Internet.
• Reinforce the guiding rule, “Don’t
talk to strangers.”
• Don’t allow your child to go into
private chat rooms, especially
when you are not present.
• Know your child’s usernames and
passwords to all accounts.
• Utilize parental controls and
commercial blocking/filtering
software tools.
• Review the use histories and logs
of your computer to see where
your children have been.
8. Do not threaten to
take away the
computer or cell
phone!
Most kids will not report inappropriate Internet contact
to their parents because they are afraid of losing
online privileges.
