Avon Foundation awards more than $5.5 million
in third round of Avon-NCI “Progress for Patients” Program

The Avon Foundation awarded $5.5 million in July for eleven new research projects, representing fourteen institutions,
in the third round of funding from a historic multi-year $20 million partnership with the National Cancer Institute called
“Progress for Patients Award Program” (PFP). The PFP is a unique public-private partnership with the objective to
rapidly translate laboratory discoveries into clinical interventions to benefit women at risk and in need of treatment for
     breast cancer.
Funded investigators conduct Phase I and II breast cancer clinical trials, including drug development, prevention,
screening, immunotherapeutic and other early phase interventions for which it is often difficult to secure funding. Since
the first awards in 2002, 30 such trials have been funded, many involving unique collaborations of multiple institutions
that is strongly encouraged among Avon Foundation beneficiaries.
New funding recipients include the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center
at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and others.

Yellow Ribbon Fund Continues to Assist Military Families in Need
A new Fisher House at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington,
D.C. was recently opened thanks to an Avon Foundation gift of $500,000 from
the Avon Yellow Ribbon Fund. The newest Fisher House is one of 32 nationwide
that provide a home-away-from-home for families of military personnel receiving
care at military and veterans’ medical centers.

Attending the dedication were military and government dignitaries along with
Kathleen Walas, President, Avon Foundation, Angie Rossi, Group Vice President,
Avon U.S. Sales and Customer Care, and several Avon Sales Representatives.

Another new Fisher House, to be built in San Diego, will be supported with an additional grant of $500,000 from the Avon Foundation.
Families of military personnel lost in the line of duty will also be assisted by a new Web site, funded with $350,000 from the Avon Foundation. In
2003, $1 million was awarded from the Yellow Ribbon Fund to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund to directly assist the families of military personnel
killed in conflict. These four gifts were drawn from the nearly $3 million raised through sales of the Avon Yellow Ribbon Pin, which is still available
through Avon Sales Representatives or at www.avon.com.
