8. A STAR
Definition—
A huge ball of gas held together by gravity.
The central core of a star is extremely hot
and produces energy. Some of this energy is
released as visible light which makes the star
glow.
Stars come in different sizes, colours and
temperatures.
11. CONSTELLATION
Definition—
A group of stars seen as forming a
figure or design in the sky, many of
which are based on mythological
traditions from ancient Greek and
Middle Eastern Civilisation.
There are 88 officially recognised
constellations.
13. SOLAR SYSTEM
Definition-
The solar system consists
of the Sun, its eight major
planets, the dwarf planets
and small bodies, clouds
of dust and gas.
15. PLANET
Definition-
Planet is a celestial body that
1) Is in orbit around the Sun
2) has sufficient mass to assume a round
shape
3) Has cleared the neighbourhood around
its orbit.
21. ASTEROIDS
Any number of numerous small,
often irregular shaped rocky
bodies that orbit the sun,
primarily in the asteroid belt, A
region between the orbits of mars
and Jupiter .
24. METEOROID, METEOR, METEORITE
Meteoroid is a solid object moving in interplanetary space,
of a size considerably smaller than an asteroid and
considerably larger than an atom.
Meteor is the visible streak of light that occurs when a
meteoroid enter the earth’s atmosphere.
Meteorite is a portion of a meteoroid or asteroid that
survives its passage through the atmosphere and impacts with
the ground without being destroyed.
