A contract is a project with additional work that allows the student to receive honors credit in the course. Students wishing to do an Honors Contract must complete forms available at www.honors.unt.edu or in the Honors Office in Chilton 211. Additional information about honors contracts is available at www.honors.unt.edu or in the Honors College office. One contract may be counted toward the Honors Recognition Award and two may be counted toward the Honors Scholar and Distinguished Honors Scholar awards.
Study Abroad and NSE are other ways to earn honors credit. Before going on a UNT study abroad program or NSE Exchange, the student should complete an Honors College Enrichment Form and submit it to the Honors College Office for approval. Students who participate in an official UNT Study Abroad program receive three honors credits for a summer program and six for a semester-long program. Students participating in NSE also earn three honors credits for a semester, six for a year. An Honors College may count up to six Study Abroad and/or NSE honors credits toward the Honors Scholar or Distinguished Honors Scholar Award.
Can I switch to a different award as I make progress toward my degree?
Yes, this happens all the time. Requirements for the three awards differ, however, so it is important to check with the Honors College academic counselor to make sure you are still on track. When in doubt, please ask.
May I duplicate an Honors class by taking the non-honors version of the course?
No, we never allow Honors courses to be duplicated with a non-honors version. Honors classes are indicated on the student transcript either by a line saying it is an Honors class or by an H beside the course number.
Is it worth it to earn an Honors College award?
Yes. There are various privileges associated with Honors College membership, the most important of which is the right to take small classes associated with the program. Honors College students also have priority registration and special library privileges. At commencement, you will be honored at a special event and presented with your Honors College medallion. Finally, your UNT transcript will be designated with your Honors College award, which will be a positive recognition throughout your life.
