2. Features
The Lead Beaters Possum is a
little marsupial that starts off at
about 8cm and grows to about
35cm. It is small and normally has
brown hair with a stripe down it’s
head. It has a very curly tail which
when young can wrap around a
tree branch. It has tiny claws and
a really really really small pink
nose.
3. Habitat
The Lead Beaters Possum lives in
Victoria. They live in a certain tree
called Mountain Ash. Another
name for Mountain Ash is
Eucalyptus Regnans. Mountain
Ash or Eucalyptus Regnans are
also the tallest of all flowering
plants.
5. Assist
The Lead Beaters Possum eats
small insects such as moths,
spiders, crickets and much more.
They enjoy sweet liquid called
honeydew that they lick off the
leaves. They are small so if a
predator is chasing them they
could hide in a hollow log or climb
up a tall tree so the predator could
not reach them.
6. Hinders
One of the hinders to the Lead
Beaters Possum is clearfell
logging and salvage logging (after
bushfires) are one of their biggest
threat.
Another threat they have is cars
they wander out on the road and a
car hits them.
7. How Do We Help
Some people help the Lead
Beaters Possum by making zoos
or protesting or starting charity's.
There are barely any Lead Beater
Possums in the wild but the ones
that are, are in danger.
Sarah Rees started a petition for
the Lead Beaters Possum, she
tried to stop Nippon/Australia from
chopping down trees in Victoria to
make Reflex paper.
