2. Content
For me the most appealing stories tend to be more morbid, this is because I
find these stories are more interesting to read, however the articles always
tend to be shorter than other articles I would probably not read. I have also
found that the articles that I read tend to have shorter titles that do not
reveal much about the actual story at all, this leads me to read the article
because I am interested to find out more about what the article features.
Where as stories such as “Victorian pipes to be replaced to reduce risk of
contamination in York” tell me the main part of the stories in the overly long
title so I don’t find any interest in reading them. The most popular articles
column are mainly made up of morbid stories or stories with shorter article
names.
Of course you can’t just fill your website and newspapers with morbid stories
only because that will scare the readers and will make them sad, so it would
be best to make some morbid articles but balance it out with more happier
stories or informative articles that people will find interesting or will make an
impact on people (again using shorter titles for the articles).
3. Design
The mobile site is well laid out, it is simple to navigate
and search any article that you want to read.
However the desktop website is not as good. There are
too many adverts that take up the sides of the screen
instead of the actual website. All the articles seem
cramped together even though there is loads of potential
space to spread the articles about instead of putting
them next to each other in boxes. A good website to take
inspiration from would be http://www.xbox.com/en-US/
because it is dynamic and everything is spread out. The
Xbox website also has multiple colours that jump out at
you where as the York Press website is plain and boring
because there is no colour to it.
