2. Panosteitis (or “Puppy Limp”) is a disease that generally

affects young, rapidly growing, large-breed dogs. Bones
–particularly leg bones–become inflamed and cause lameness.
Panosteitis generally lasts a few months and resolves itself
without treatment. The cause of panosteitis is not known, but it
occurs most commonly in German shepherds.

Your veterinarian can confirm a case of panosteitis through an
examination and x-rays. Because the disease eventually
disappears by itself, inflammation- and pain-reducing
medication are all that’s usually needed to treat your dog. Non-
steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such
as Metacam and Rimadyl will likely be prescribed to make you
dog more comfortable.
From time to time, PaPi would whine, limp and display all the systems listed.
We’ve had him since he was barely 2 months old & about 14lbs, now he’s a recently turned 1yr
old weighing over 90lbs.
