4. What is audience engagement?
Startup Science
The measure of an organization’s ability to
create a BRAND COMMUNITY and
galvanize it to ACTION in ways that go
BEYOND ONE-TIME TRANSACTIONS.
Engagement is about creating MULTIPLE,
EVER-DEEPER interactions that occur
over MULTIPLE CHANNELS and tactics.

Hi I’m Theresa, CEO & Founder of Play2Lead. Bit about me….I used to head up Marketing for Asia Pac at ThoughtWorks – an Agile custom software development house, and before that I headed up Premium SMS at Vodafone Australia.I left the corporate world again 15 months ago because I wasn’t having fun…I wanted to do something I was passionate about again, so I left to build my second startup…which pivoted in April this year to Play2Lead in its current form.
Although this picture is an exaggeration, I’ve been to many conferences…hopefully not this one, and hopefully right now….audiences are bored and disengaged…and at best, they are tweeting or checking emails…so hard to tell how engaged they are.
So what is audience engagement?
Marketers typically promote attendee engagement throughout the event life cycle, but strangely, not during the event.
So I asked myself
Sorry people…I’m a startup…so I don’t have worldly possessions…but I do have something pretty cool that you could win…so stay tuned
I took a Coursera course on gamification about a year ago which I would encourage you to do. There are a whole range of game components you can apply – the most popular that you’ll find are PBLs – Points, Badges and Leaderboards
Then there are many game mechanics that drive the game forward …. Competition, Resource Acquisition, Rewards, Win States. But whatever you decide to employ, you must make sure they are aligned to your business objectives.
