Which programmer knows best: The old guy, or the kid? Can they get by working together on a product road map? TechCrunch released data in 2010 on “Silicon Valley’s Dark Secret” – how Startups prefer to hire young inexperienced developers because they are more flexible and cost less money. More recently in April 2013, a Forrester study found that middle-aged developers are “driving cloud development.” In 2013, 71% of cloud developers have at least six years of programming experience and 11% have over 20 years experience. Generation Xer Ed (the old guy), and Millennial John-Michael (JMO, the kid) will share generation struggles, and lessons learned (along with a few amusing anecdotes) while working on their company’s open source software product, Tendenci.
