Since the advent of science and technology, new developments and discoveries have been the
key in the world around. These developments have tremendously heightened the human
comfort levels and made life easier and worthwhile. One such discovery has been that of mobile
phones. These cellular devices, brought to life in 1973, have reduced distances and made the
world shrink. Initiating and receiving calls is not only the purpose solved by these machines
today, however, as additional features like text messaging, MMS, e-mail, internet access, short
range wireless data transferring via infrared and Bluetooth, business application , gaming an
photography have all been introduced over time to create the ultimate smart phone we know
today.
This milestone turned out to be a path-breaking discovery when cellular phones were combined
with the features of a computer, creating the smart phone. A smart phone is a device that suits
the purpose of portable media players, low-end compact digital cameras, pocket video cameras,
and GPS navigation units altogether. This has been possible because of its high end mobile
operating systems (OS) such as Google's Android,
Apple’s iOS, Nokia's Symbian, RIM's BlackBerry OS, Samsung's Bada, Microsoft's Windows
Phone, HP's webOS, and embedded Linux distributions such as Maemo and MeeGo.

2. Android was one of the first to try out this new territory of smart phones and has been the most
roaring of all with an estimated one million activations per day and 400 million devices in use
globally. Android is a Linux based operating system developed by Open handset alliance, led by
Google and other partners. The unveiling of Android distribution began in 2007, and started with
the purchase of the initial developer of software, Android Inc., in 2005 by Google. The
advantage enjoyed by Android over other operating systems was that of being a multi-channel,
multi-carrier OS, which made Android the world’s leading Smartphone platform by the end of
2010, owning59% market share worldwide within the 1st quarter of 2012.
Android applications and software’s are being developed at a fast pace. These are developed
in JAVA programming language using a software development kit in unison with other
development tools available in the market. These development kits are needed to run various
android-based apps. These comprehensive kits are well known as the android software
development kit with tools like a debugger, libraries, a handset emulator, documentation,
sample code, and tutorials featured within it.
One such tool needed to run various android games is the android emulator. An emulator is
hardware or software that emulates the function of a guest computer to that one host computer
so that the host computer system closely resembles that of the real one. With the availability of
free or inexpensive emulators, one can enjoy almost all the games in an android device at
anytime, anywhere.
A few of the best running android emulators are, the Atari 2600, UAE4droid, Mobile C64,
Marvin, Game Boy Color Emulator, GBAoid, NESoid, GENsoid, SNESoid, and many more.
Android, as a mobile platform, enables its users to download and showcase various
web-enabled apps. These apps enable the user to have an experience of various applications
offered by the computer now available in a smart phone. A few of the top apps available in the
market are Seesmic, an app supporting multiple accounts, and a home page widget showing
latest tweets in a professional and slick design. Others are Facebook’s official app, National
Rail Inquiry, USA Jobs, HotMail, Google Sky Map, Layar, FourSquare, GoogleGoggles, and
many more that all provide a great experience for the user.
With all of these apps and many other features, Android has been destroying the competition as
a major contender in the market since 2010. It is expected to continue to develop exponentially
in the near future.
