3. Message from Director
Dear students,
Welcome to the School of Architecture & the Built
Environment (ABE). Congratulations for earning a place
here in Singapore Polytechnic. Many of us are so used
to going to school that we sometimes forget it is a
privilege to have an education. Here in ABE we hope to
light a fire in you – a passion to pursue your studies. I
am confident that ultimately you will assume
responsibility for your own learning so that your
potential is stretched and you flourish here, in
university and in your career.
Martin Luther King Jr said, “Intelligence plus character
- that is the goal of true education.” This rings
wonderfully true. More important than knowledge and
skills, we hope you will grow strong in integrity and
strength of character.
For those who did not get into a course of your first
choice, do not be disheartened – it is more important to
„love what you are study‟ than to „study what you love‟.
I wish you a great learning journey ahead in the 3 years
here with us!
